Since 1992, Young Enterprise Scotland has inspired young people to learn and succeed through enterprise by creating and developing programmes that complement the school and college experience and encourage young people to realise the extent of their own talents.

Every person employed by, or supporting this organisation has a deep passion for educating and improving the lives of young people across Scotland. This is especially so for those from challenging socio-economic backgrounds and those with additional needs. We have these at the heart of what we do.

The Chairperson is a key leadership role within Young Enterprise Scotland, responsible for providing strategic leadership, ensuring effective Board governance, fostering stakeholder relationships and promoting the organisation’s interests. As our new Chair, you will lead the Board, drive collaboration, ensure the organisation is clear on its strategic direction and operates in alignment with its mission and values. You will offer guidance, expertise and support on key matters of strategy, operational management, organisational structure, financial affairs, and risk management.

With a strong commitment to our mission and the ability to lead embracing integrity, enthusiasm, creativity and collaboration, the successful candidate will bring:

  • A proven track record of successful leadership, preferably at a senior executive level
  • The ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team, drive innovation, and make informed decisions that align with an organisation’s objectives
  • A sound understanding of governance principles
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and comfortable in an ambassadorial role
  • The ability to constructively challenge fellow trustees and the senior leadership team ensuring they work collectively in the best interests of the organisation
  • Both a willingness and availability to work with the Chief Executive, providing support and constructive challenge with discretion, including out with the formal meeting schedule if appropriate

Young Enterprise Scotland has a rich heritage spanning over 30 years working in partnership with schools to enhance and enrich curriculum learning with personal and employability skills. Young Enterprise Scotland has been inspiring & equipping young people to learn, develop and reach their full potential through enterprise since 1992. Every year they support around 15,000 young people, from all backgrounds, develop their business knowledge, entrepreneurial skills & ultimately become more employable. The dedicated & passionate team of staff are supported by over 250 volunteers from the business community to help them to realise their vision for Scotland to be a place where all young people should be given the opportunity to have a rewarding future in work and life - no matter where they start their journey. Young Enterprise Scotland set high standards whilst being creative in approach. The delivery has widened and diversified across four key areas – School Programmes, Pathway Programmes, Financial education and Bridge 2 Business. Whilst growing the offering they always ensure that all activities are fit to meet their Mission whilst adhering to a guiding principle to do this in “learning by doing” format.

The purpose of this role is to assist with the delivery of fundraising objectives whilst working towards the YE Scotland vision, strategic plan and values. A significant element of the role is to investigate and secure potential new revenue streams for the organisation, particularly within the private and public sector.

The purpose of this role is to support the Communications and Events Manager in designing, implementing and maintaining an innovative digital engagement and growth strategy which will help to deliver the Enterprise For All strategy for Young Enterprise Scotland.

Support the Communications and Events Manager in designing and developing high quality video content to upgrade our current digital offering, with particular focus on schools in selected low engagement regions.

Support the Communications and Events Manager in raising awareness of our brand identity, our programmes, and our role as a key stakeholder in Developing the Young Workforce and skills-based learning for all young people.

  • To support the College Delivery Manager to continually enhance entrepreneurial learning and teaching for students across Further Education in Scotland.

The YE Scotland team is supported by almost 300 volunteers and the Scottish business community. We are united around the mission to inspire and equip all young people to learn, develop and reach their full potential through enterprise.

We create opportunities to fulfil the potential of all young people in Scotland. Our ambitious vision for Scotland is a country where all young people can build a rewarding future – no matter where they start their journey.

We want to recruit board members with varied personal and professional characteristics and experiences. We are seeking people with shared values around achieving social impact through learning and development, but with different ways of thinking and doing things.

As well as having the wider professional skills and experiences that we need on the board we also want a board that reflects and understands the people that we serve.

Trustees have ensured that the Board consists of individuals with strong business and social networks and contains a mix of in-depth knowledge of and experience in the areas listed below.

As a Trustee, it is desirable for you to have an interest in one or more of the following areas:

  • YE Scotland programmes as an alumni or volunteer
  • Education
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Sales, marketing and public relations including digital and social media
  • Technology & IT
  • Finance, audit and risk management
  • Legal and governance/compliance
  • Strategy development and execution
  • Government (central and local)

Relevant skills and experience are important but previous board experience is not essential, nor is a long career at a senior level.

Scotland’s Enterprising Schools Programme Executive

Entrepreneurship and enterprise are widely thought to be a major driver for economic growth, job creation and wider community development – three things that are essential for Scotland to flourish as a nation.

Young people need to be prepared for a world that is changing rapidly. Many of the jobs they will do when they leave school do not yet exist and they will probably have several jobs during their lifetime. They need to have the skills and attitudes to cope with an unpredictable future, to be able to deal with setbacks and disappointments in a positive way,

and to continue to learn for the rest of their lives. This is one of the key reasons why Scotland’s Enterprising Schools was

established.

Since our launch in 2015, we have developed a strategic vision to lead and support the drive to build capacity among teaching practitioners to develop their learning, knowledge, skills and practice, enabling them to use enterprise education as a valuable route for enhanced learning and working.

Based on the values of mutual professional trust and honesty, we are working to challenge and support the professional capital of all teachers through the development and delivery of challenging and practical learning opportunities and

mentoring support across all 32 of Scotland’s local authorities.

We are recruiting a Programme Executive to help support our vision, mission and aims.

Core Purpose of the Role:

• To support effective delivery of the SES Project, operating within the early years, primary, secondary, ASN education sectors and Initial Teacher Education training providers in Scotland to the expected standards, matching the Programme Objectives.

• To support the Project Manager to continually enhance= Enterprise Education provision by promoting it to education practitioners through training sessions and at events throughout the year.

• To develop new resources and innovative ways to continually develop the SES offering.
