Role
Glasgow Association for Mental Health is one of the principle providers of community mental health services in Greater Glasgow. We have been commissioned by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver a Compassionate Distress Response Service. This work has been developed with the aim of providing a more appropriate response to people in distress who do not require a medical or specialist psychiatric assessment. The service will comprise of:
- A daytime service open to GP/Primary Care referrals only. 5 days a week 9am to 5pm.
- An Out of hours service 7 days a week 4.45pm to 2am. Referrals restricted to; Mental Health Assessment Units, CPN/OOHs, Police Scotland, British Transport Police, Scottish Ambulance Service, GP Out of Hours, NHS 24, NHS GG&C Emergency Departments within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Urgent Care Resource Hub. Both services are funded for two years with a possible extension of two years. The services will be operated from our GAMH Head Office at St Andrews by the Green.
We wish to appoint the following for our CDRS teams:
2 x Distress Response Workers daytime service - (REF: DRW/DAY)
37.5 hours per week: Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm
£22,440 per annum
2 x 0.5 Distress Response Workers out of hours service – (REF: DRW/OH)
Monday to Sunday 4.45pm – 2am
£22,440 per annum (Pro Rata £11,220 pa)
Rota will consists of 2 nights at 9.38 hours per night
Key Skills:
Good interpersonal communication skills to be able to work effectively with emergency services, first responders, GPs, Primary Care teams.
Compassionate listening, be able to alleviate individual’s feelings of distress. Apply risk assessment and safety planning where necessary.
Be highly resourceful in supporting individuals i.e. identifying coping strategies, self-management techniques and onward referral where appropriate.
(SVQ 3 or equivalent or willingness towards achieving this qualification is essential).
Knowledge of the SCCC Codes of Practice and the National Care Standards and how these frameworks apply to practice is preferred for all posts. Link Worker- Redress Support Service

Background
In 2010, the Scottish Government contracted the Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to develop a Framework for Justice and Remedies for Historic Abuse of Children in Care. This work led to an Action Plan to implement the recommendations of this framework.
Established in 2016, the In-Care Survivor Alliance was formed in support of a wider strategy developed by the Scottish Government to address the legacy of historic abuse in Scotland. Fully funded by the Scottish Government, the alliance is formed of three partners, the Glasgow Psychological Trauma Service (Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership), Health in Mind and Penumbra. The Alliance’s work is supported by a further network of delivery partners.
The In Care Survivors’ Alliance hosts two initiatives that contribute to the Scottish Human Rights Commission’s Action Plan on Justice for victims of Historic Abuse of Children in Care:
- Future Pathways, a national support fund for survivors of abuse or neglect in care in Scotland, and;
- Redress Support, which provides assistance to survivors who apply for financial redress.
Redress Support Service
The Redress support service is a new initiative that aims to remove barriers that individuals might face in their application for financial redress. The service delivers emotional and practical support to applicants as required during their application process. You can find out more about our service here: redress-support.scot
About the Role
Penumbra employs the Link Workers who work with the Alliance. Penumbra is committed to the values of the Alliance and is a leading provider of person-centred, trauma-informed services that provide compassionate responses to people in distress.
Link Workers provide the support to those who contact, or are referred, to the service. The aim is to provide short-term support, and to arrange supports, from a pre-defined menu of options where support requirements appear to require more than the initial support conversations.

Our groups are community based and the Community Activities Organiser is responsible for the planning and delivery of all activities, ensuring reflective practice through our activity evaluations and feedback from the people we support.
What you’ll have
Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia and brain health, with a passion to make a difference. You will have good communication and computer skills, a caring attitude and most of all enthusiasm for the role. You will be confident in planning activities in advance and leading any volunteers supporting at your group.
Applicants must have a full and valid driving license and vehicle to be able to travel for this role (mileage and expenses are paid).
The successful candidate for this post will be required to provide proof of right to work in the UK and will also be subject to a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland.
