Role

The Bridge Community Café & Holy Trinity Food Bank are well established, growing and exciting ministries that are part of the community facing work of Holy Trinity Church located in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Much of Wester Hailes is affected by marked socio-economic deprivation and the resultant challenges. The current cost of living crisis is causing even more strain for local people. The Bridge Café & Foodbank try to meet immediate practical needs, and to support and maintain contact with people from the community who need it most.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate person to lead the teams who run the church community café and foodbank in Wester Hailes as we seek to develop these ministries. The position is part time, 22.5 hours a week flexible during Monday to Friday and is subject to review after 2 years.

The Café & Foodbank Team Lead will have three main areas of responsibility:

1) The Foodbank: To strengthen and maintain a team of volunteers to run the large-scale provision of Foodbank each week. This includes training and oversight of volunteers and monitoring the effectiveness of the Foodbank processes, providing feedback to sponsors.

2) The Bridge Community Café: To act as mentor and line manager for the Café Manager. Supporting and facilitating the running of the café.

3) Development: Work with key volunteers, elders, and staff members to shape current and any future community caring initiatives. Maintaining and developing relationships with external agencies and other local supporting churches.

You will be compassionate, and able to relate to those who are poor, needy and vulnerable with a desire to help address some of their needs, demonstrating and sharing God’s love in practical ways. You will have previous leadership or managerial experience, able to nurture, develop and motivate staff and volunteers to give of their best. It is also important that you have administrative and organisational skills, including managing a budget, and are proficient in the use of e-mail, social media and MS Office products.
