Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Coach

We are looking for a CAP Debt Coach at Edinburgh West’s Debt Centre, run by Holy Trinity Church, covering Wester Hailes and the surrounding areas. Unmanageable debt is a real and growing problem in the community of Wester Hailes, and we are committed to meeting this need through our Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre, which has been running successfully now for over 10 years. By expanding our capacity through the employment of a CAP Debt Coach, we will increase our impact on our community, especially our support for those who are struggling under the burden of debt.

The CAP Debt Coach will assist the CAP Debt Centre Manager in the efficient running of the CAP Debt Centre and achieving the aims of CAP – seeing people freed from the entrapment of debt and coming to a personal faith in Jesus Christ. You will visit clients in their homes, delivering debt advice, encouraging them to work with CAP, communicating affordable budgets and repayment plans and supporting them through their debt management plan.

There may be the potential for working with clients in a prison setting.

You will need to be compassionate, a good listener, and able to relate to the poor, needy and vulnerable with a desire to solve financial problems, while sharing the Christian faith. It is important to be a good communicator, and proficient in the use of media and IT. Working alongside the CAP Debt Centre and Job Club Managers, you will communicate the mission and culture of CAP, both in the community and in Holy Trinity Church, continuing to expand our network of external referral agencies, while at the same time helping to build the team of volunteers.

Summary of job Role-

We are prayerfully seeking a new Young People's Ministry Team Leader as our current staff member begins Ministry Training. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring the good news of Jesus to the young people of our church and the community of Wester Hailes. You will work with a fantastic Spirit-filled team of paid staff and volunteers with a proven track record of seeing God at work. If you have significant experience of working with children and young people or a background in other fields such as teaching or social work and believe God is calling you to use your gifts for the Kingdom, we would love to hear from you.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Job Club Manager

We are looking for a CAP Job Club Manager at Holy Trinity Church, Wester Hailes. Unemployment is one of the major underlying causes of poverty in our community, leading many to become trapped under the burden of unmanageable debt. A vital part of our Christian outreach here in Wester Hailes is to aim to meet this need by providing support to those looking to find paid employment.

Your responsibilities

You will be responsible for taking the lead in running all three elements of the CAP Job Club: Course, Community and Coaching, based in Holy Trinity Church and achieving the aims among our community of a CAP service to the unemployed, which are to help job seekers find work, as well as offering them the opportunity to hear the Gospel.

An important aspect of the role, working alongside the CAP Debt Centre Manager, will be to communicate the mission and culture of CAP both in the community and in Holy Trinity Church, continuing to expand our network of external referral agencies, while at the same time helping to build the team of volunteers. It Is therefore essential for the successful applicant to be able to commit to regular Sunday attendance and provide visibility of our CAP Centre work at Holy Trinity Church.

Your experience and qualifications

  • We expect you to have the ability and desire to explain the gospel in a clear, relevant and natural way with recent experience of reaching out to individuals and sharing the Christian faith.
  • You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to relate to poor, needy, and vulnerable people, giving them the motivation and confidence to work with CAP.
  • You will be an excellent communicator, able to communicate well in large and small groups.
  • You will enjoy relationship building, and you will be able to develop strengths, skills and motivation in others.
  • You will also be proficient in the use of Office IT – MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • You will be able to organise and manage your own time to deliver results with minimal supervision.

Salary and benefits

The Salary is £9,500, based on 15 hours per week – this could be two days per week, though a more flexible arrangement is possible.

We operate a pension scheme providing 8% of salary being paid to your pension. (3% employer’s contribution and a min of 5% employee contribution).

Location and supervision

You will be working in the community of Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, in the premises of Holy Trinity Church and under the oversight of Holy Trinity’s Kirk Session. Line Management will be from the Holy Trinity Discipleship Leader, and the Area manager of Christians Against Poverty.

Café & Food Bank Team Lead

The Bridge Community Café & Holy Trinity Food Bank are well established, growing and exciting ministries that are part of the community facing work of Holy Trinity Church located in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Much of Wester Hailes is affected by marked socio-economic deprivation and the resultant challenges. The current cost of living crisis is causing even more strain for local people. The Bridge Café & Foodbank try to meet immediate practical needs, and to support and maintain contact with people from the community who need it most.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate person to lead the teams who run the church community café and foodbank in Wester Hailes as we seek to develop these ministries. The position is part time, 22.5 hours a week flexible during Monday to Friday and is subject to review after 2 years.

The Café & Foodbank Team Lead will have three main areas of responsibility:

1) The Foodbank: To strengthen and maintain a team of volunteers to run the large-scale provision of Foodbank each week. This includes training and oversight of volunteers and monitoring the effectiveness of the Foodbank processes, providing feedback to sponsors.

2) The Bridge Community Café: To act as mentor and line manager for the Café Manager. Supporting and facilitating the running of the café.

3) Development: Work with key volunteers, elders, and staff members to shape current and any future community caring initiatives. Maintaining and developing relationships with external agencies and other local supporting churches.

You will be compassionate, and able to relate to those who are poor, needy and vulnerable with a desire to help address some of their needs, demonstrating and sharing God’s love in practical ways. You will have previous leadership or managerial experience, able to nurture, develop and motivate staff and volunteers to give of their best. It is also important that you have administrative and organisational skills, including managing a budget, and are proficient in the use of e-mail, social media and MS Office products.
