We are seeking a passionate and strategic leader to join our team as the Business Development Director. You will play a vital role in driving forwards Who Cares? Scotland’s vision by leading the development of strategic partnerships and securing key funding opportunities. As manager for the Fundraising and Partnerships Team, you will oversee grants, trusts, community fundraising, public tenders, and the setting of income targets. By forging strong relationships with corporate and external stakeholders, as well as overseeing our strategic affiliation with the John Lewis Partnership, your role will expand our public education, income generation, and business development aims. To interweave the organisation’s development of public education training programmes with our core fundraising mission, you will also manage our Creating Communities that Care team, who play a vital role in developing our external training offerings.

As an individual with a background of 5+ years in senior management, preferably in the non-profit sector, you have demonstrable experience in business development, fundraising, and grant writing. You possess a proven track record of successfully securing high-value grants and partnerships from diverse funding sources, leading on the development of strategic plans, and reaching key performance targets with accountability to diverse stakeholders. As a seasoned manager and mentor, you can also collaborate across organisations, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement amongst your colleagues, our volunteers, and our partner organisations. Working to shape, deliver, and evaluate our work in schools nationwide, with a particular focus in Renfrewshire, you will provide training and support to educational establishments and organisations. You will also deliver our Care Aware workforce training to employers and organisations and potentially the wider UK, helping to create conditions for Care Experienced people to thrive within the workplace.

As an individual with a background working with children and young people, you are adept at creating and delivering learning, teaching, and project plans, with experience providing dynamic training to a range of audiences. Confident writing reports and evidencing practice and impact, you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to develop strong professional relationships. The purpose of the post is to ensure that children and young people involved in Children’s Hearing processes in Moray are able to engage with independent advocacy supports. The successful candidate will ensure that the voices and views of children and young people are considered in Children’s Hearing processes and are at the heart of decision-making.

Children’s Hearing Advocacy Workers provide independent advocacy support to children and young people involved in Children’s Hearings. This means listening to what they say, supporting them to amplify their voices, and ensuring that their views are heard regarding all decisions which are being made about their lives. At the heart of the advocacy relationship is trust - built through transparent, honest, accountable and reliable interactions with a skilled and knowledgeable Children’s Hearing Advocacy Worker.

You will be joining Who Cares? Scotland and working within Moray as a representative of the North team, with opportunities to interact with our events across the whole of Scotland. This Development Officer post is central in facilitating ‘Communities that Care’ activities for Care Experienced children and young people in our Clackmannanshire/West Central region. Responsible for maximizing the networks through which Care Experienced young people can connect and grow as individuals, you will help to develop schools work participation through the organisation of ‘Communities that Care’ activities. Building upon your experience working with children and young people, you will help to support and engage with ‘Communities that Care’ activities. You will also aid team members in utilising their own youth work and/or community engagement skills, working collaboratively with organisational partners, Local Authorities, and other public services across Clackmannanshire.

As part of your Development Officer (Communities that Care) role you will collaborate with our Advocacy and Participation Manager to identify, attract, and monitor local funding and fundraising opportunities. You will enhance our local offering to Care Experienced people, helping to support belonging and participation activities. These core activities – primarily delivered in educational settings – include awareness-raising presentations, assembly and lesson-planning inputs, group work, as well as forums and events. Whilst doing so, you will develop and maintain good working relationships with relevant regional organisations across Clackmannanshire, gaining experience in awareness-raising and promotion. In post, your reports in relation to the impact of your work with local communities will bolster the evidence base to influence local policy initiatives, such as The Promise. The Finance Manager is a key position within Who Cares? Scotland and will work closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure effective financial management of the organisation. Responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, journals, and forecasts, as well as year-end accounting process, the Finance Manager will also assist the Director of Finance with preparation of the annual budget.

Contributing to internal control procedures, you will regularly review financial policies and ensure that WC?S maintains a robust financial management framework. In addition, the Finance Manager will ensure that all financial records meet auditing, legal and tax requirements, implementing new systems or upgrades to systems where necessary.

The right candidate will be experienced in providing Senior Management and budget holders with timely and accurate financial information, as well as preparing reports, appraisals, and budget proposals for funding bids or new projects. You will have strong working knowledge of payroll process and maintaining asset registers, and you are confident reviewing reconciliation processes and undertaking adjustments.

With proven skill in closely and accurately monitoring funds, the Finance Manager will help to ensure that Who Cares? Scotland has sufficient funds to profitably operate, invest and grow. As a leader, you will supervise Finance staff to ensure the accuracy and quality of delegated duties, e.g., raising of sales invoices, payment of suppliers, collation and transfer of payroll information, and processing of expense, mileage, and credit card claims. You will also provide finance training support to budget holders to enable them to take responsibility for their own budgets, as well as maintain the organisation’s relationship with the Bank, external auditors, and the Finance and HR Committee team. The right candidate will therefore be capable of forming positive relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds, will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and be adaptable to a wide range of contexts.

In this role you will utilise and create opportunities for participation and belonging activities with Care Experienced young people, whilst supporting PR, awareness-raising, events, and other projects. Core belonging and participation activities will involve fun connection sessions; issue-based group work; creative based group work; collective advocacy and focus groups; as well as forums and events. You will support volunteers and students on placement to utilise youth work and/or community engagement skills and work collaboratively with organisational partners, Local Authorities, and other public services to create new opportunities or develop existing ones.

Responsible for maximizing the networks through which care experienced young people can connect, develop, and grow as individuals, you will use a range of communications channels to promote belonging and participation activities to care experienced children and young people. By developing accessible and applicable youth work tools and activities, you will build upon your experience working with children and young people to create attractive offers locally that encourage care experienced people to join our membership.

In your capacity as a Development Officer, you will work closely with Who Cares? Scotland Volunteer Manager to ensure we are providing the best support available to volunteers serving our young people. Through collaboration with our Advocacy and Participation Manager, you will identify and attract local funding and fundraising opportunities to enhance our local offering to care experienced people. As Evidence & Impact Officer, you will help the organisation to evaluate its activities, demonstrate the impact they make, and continually learn from our work. You will contribute within the team to ensure we have the strong evidence and funding base needed to increase the reach of the organisation and work towards achieving our vision for Care Experienced people. Organising and leading consultative meetings, you will help to gather evidence on Advocacy & Participation Worker’s (APWs) experiences of the Children’s Hearing System (CHS). This will include co-facilitating the Advocacy Community of Practice around CHS. Your role will also see you assist in responding to requests for data and evidence drawn from our bespoke database and help to write evidence and impact reports for a range of audiences.

Coordinating with our team to provide accessible training for staff, alongside supporting the collating and analysing of data to underpin our policy priorities, you will work collaboratively to carry out goals for data reclassification and cleaning. As Evidence & Impact Officer, your position will afford the opportunity to learn how to share impact data accessibly, whilst working in a team improving and expanding the organisations’ digital skills and systems.

This unique role offers the opportunity to listen to and work directly with children and young people with experience of care, in an individual relationship-based advocacy role, and within participation and group activity across our North East region.

As Development Officer – Volunteering and Participation, you will have a key role within the national Volunteering team. Helping to build and support a successful volunteer network, you will shape and deliver a volunteer programme across the organisation. These core activities include connection sessions; issue-based group work; creative based group work; collective advocacy and focus groups; as well as forums and events. This Development Officer (Youth Work) post is central in facilitating and developing Participation and Belonging activities for Care Experienced children and young people in our North East region. The post is imperative in creating safe and inclusive environments for Care Experienced children and young people, where their voices, views and experiences are heard by senior leaders, helping to bring about positive change.

In this role you will utilise and create opportunities for participation and belonging activities with care experienced young people, whilst supporting PR, awareness-raising, events, and other projects. Core belonging and participation activities will involve fun connection sessions; issue-based group work; creative based group work; collective advocacy and focus groups; as well as forums and events. You will support volunteers and students on placement to utilise youth work and/or community engagement skills and work collaboratively with organisational partners, Local Authorities, and other public services to create new opportunities or develop existing ones.

Responsible for maximizing the networks through which care experienced young people can connect, develop, and grow as individuals, you will use a range of communications channels to promote belonging and participation activities to care experienced children and young people. By developing accessible and applicable youth work tools and activities, you will build upon your experience working with children and young people to create attractive offers locally that encourage care experienced people to join our membership.

In your capacity as a Development Officer, you will work closely with Who Cares? Scotland Volunteer Manager to ensure we are providing the best support available to volunteers serving our young people. Through collaboration with our Advocacy and Participation Manager, you will identify and attract local funding and fundraising opportunities to enhance our local offering to care experienced people. In doing so, you will develop and maintain good working relationships with relevant regional organisations (e.g., Local Authority, Third Sector, Public Sector Corporate Parents) and gain experience in awareness-raising and promotion. Providing reports in relation to participation, belonging, and the impact of your work, you will bolster the evidence base to support fundraising and awareness- raising opportunities, as well as to influence local policy initiatives, such as The Promise. The successful candidate will have experience of leading fundraising initiatives as well as bid-writing and/ or creating and delivering sales pitches that were successful to the value of over £100k per annum. Purpose of the post

The post is focused on facilitating the participation and belonging of care-experienced children and young people from the region in the development of activities and will create an environment where the voices, views and experiences of care experienced children and young people are heard by senior leaders, helping to bring about positive change.

The post holder will utilise and create opportunities for participation and belonging activities and projects with care experienced young people - whilst supporting a range of PR, awareness-raising, events and other activities. Core belonging and participation activities will involve: fun connection and belonging activities, issue based group work; creative based group work; and focus groups, forums and events, both one-off and longer term in duration. The post holder will support volunteers and students on placement to utilise youth work and/or community engagement skills to undertake the role. It will involve working closely with organisational partners, different services within the Local Authority and other public services in order to create new opportunities or develop existing ones.

The Participation Assistant will help to enable children and young people with care experience to feel empowered, championed and supported to explore their views and voice, and raise them within the work of the Champions Board, so that real change can happen to improve the lives and opportunities of care experienced children and young people.

The successful candidates will join our friendly East Lothian team and will be supported to develop their confidence as a Participation Assistant. The post holder will be involved in a range of external facing work and activities which will include campaign, training, awareness raising, partnership development and lobbying work, using a range of existing and yet to be developed activities and methods.

The right candidate will be someone who is open to new ideas, who has good communication and group working skills, and is excited to build important relationships within the community. The post holder will be trustworthy, reliable, and have good organisational skills in order to promote and support all aspect of the work of the team and the Champions Board in East Lothian.

The post holder will also work proactively with the Fundraising Team for the benefit of the region, identifying and following up on local sources of additional funding.

The Events and Communications Support Officer will work as part of the Communications and Public Affairs Team at Who Cares? Scotland, reporting to the Communications and Public Affairs Coordinator. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of events, with an internal and external focus, across the organisation. The events we deliver are an important component of our ‘participation and belonging’ offer to Care Experienced people and are crucial in our attempts to build community and influence those in power. Covid-19 has impacted on our ability to deliver in-person, engaging events, and this role will be crucial in helping us to rebuild this offer with creativity, organisation, and flexibility.

Additionally, this role will contribute to the development of our national membership offer by ensuring it remains appealing and relevant to our current members and any potential new members. While the membership offer is an organisation-wide responsibility, this role will be key in delivering consistent, creative communications to our members, keeping them informed.

The right candidate will be highly organised, have an attention to detail, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. They must be trustworthy and reliable, with a willingness to learn. An events qualification or previous experience of working in an events role, as well as creative digital skills are desirable for this role.

The Digital Training and Education Officer will work as part of the Training and Education Team at Who Cares? Scotland, reporting to the Training and Education Manager. The post holder’s main responsibility will be to develop positive relationships with Corporate Parents; designing and delivering projects and activities to support their knowledge and understanding of Corporate Parenting as defined by the Children and Young people (Scotland) Act 2014. They will mobilise quickly to respond to a range of policy and practice developments and ensure that Corporate Parents and relevant stakeholders understand how to effectively support Care Experienced people.

The post holder will adopt a hybrid approach, both delivering training and education sessions and

developing digital projects and associated resources. The right candidate will be a highly effective communicator, facilitator, and presenter, and have a keen interest and skill in communicating complex policy landscapes to a wide audience in interesting and engaging ways. Knowledge and experience of delivering learning programmes is essential, as is the ability to present to senior professionals across the public, private and third sector, and having excellent digital creative skills, with experience in producing and editing short films.

The successful candidate will be able to show that they have experience in building trusting and compassionate relationships with young people and be confident in working in partnership with a variety of Corporate Parents at all levels. The post holder will require excellent youth work and/or community engagement skills to create new opportunities and develop on existing ones with Local Authority, organisational partners, and other public services. The post holder will also support a wide range of PR, awareness-raising, events and other activities on both one-off and longer-term projects.

The overarching purpose of this role then is to strengthening how the organisation takes a human rights-based approach to data collection and how we use our extensive evidence base to help influence policy and practice for our Care Experienced membership.

Additionally, the post holder will lead and have responsibility for a small team, and will ensure that the evaluation of Who Cares? Scotland’s activities are in line with the organisation’s key priorities, demonstrating impact and ensuring we continually learn from our work.

To carry out this role you will have a proven record of the ability to analyse, scrutinise, interpret, and present complicated information to a wide range of audiences. You will have a background in impact evaluation or academic experience in a discipline involving social research skills and understand the importance of having a robust evidence base in helping to influence positive change.
