Dartington Service Design Lab is an internationally respected research and design charity focussed on using evidence and design in innovative ways to help those working with children and young people to have a greater impact. As an organisation, we have more than 50 years of experience working across the public and voluntary sectors.
We are boosting our staff with a number of new positions including a Senior Service Designer. We are looking for the successful candidate to be based in Scotland to support our dedicated Scottish team to do meaningful work in the Scottish context, as well as working on projects across the UK.
The Senior Designer will enjoy a varied and independent role spanning public system reform, service design, co-design with young people and place-based systems change related to services for children and families. The role involves collaboration and support for the growing Design team. It also involves working in an inter-disciplinary and collaborative way with the Senior Management, Research and Communications teams to continue to develop methods to integrate Design with evidence-informed social science, research and systems thinking approaches.
The work is rarely routine and the successful candidate would have the opportunity to make the role their own. We are often experimenting and trying to innovate together and with those who we work with. We value empathy, collaboration and community participation, with a focus on using evidence for social good.
We need a Senior Service Designer who is able to take a leading role on Design and related projects, provide support to colleagues and actively grow our Design culture. We are seeking a Designer with at least 3-5 years’ experience, this may be directly in service design or in a related field, ideally within the social sector, and with experience using evidence and research processes.

We operate remotely across the Great Britain with regular project-related travel when it is safe to do so. Over the past 4 years we have successfully been using online and video communication tools to deliver our work. Our staff tend to work from home or, when appropriate, together in local co-working spaces, and normally, every quarter we meet as a whole team in our beautiful Devon office. Specialist Intervention Services (SIS) Practitioner

As SIS Practitioner, you will report to the Specialist Intervention Health and Wellbeing (SIHW) Manager. You will deliver interventions using a range of psychological assessment tools, and formulations. You will provide specialist knowledge, support, and guidance to young people and members of their key team.
The post-holder will assist in designing and delivering 1:1 and group work packages for young people who reside at Rossie in either the secure or residential campus. The primary focus will be to ensure a range of therapeutic interventions tailored to the needs, risks, responsivity issues, and learning styles of the young people are met and risk assessment and management strategies are put in place. You will consult with colleagues, attend meetings and write professional reports to inform others of the work being achieved.
You will have regular supervision from a Clinical Psychologist to ensure your work is ethical, effective, focused on positive experiences and outcomes and continues to meet the needs of the young people.

Role summary
In 2022, SafeLives and ASSIST began the Domestic Abuse Court Advocacy project, funded by Scottish Government’s Victim Centred Approach Fund (VCAF), to ultimately ensure more victims of domestic abuse have a safe and informed journey through the criminal justice system. Specifically, the project aims to build consistency in how domestic abuse court advocacy provision is delivered across Scotland via creation of Domestic Abuse Court Advocacy (DACA) Standards, establishment of an accreditation framework for DACA services, and delivery of a new Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)-accredited training block on specialist domestic abuse court advocacy.
Working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders and in close partnership with a subject matter expert from ASSIST who has been involved in the DACA project from the beginning, you will begin the accreditation process in earnest. Using the new framework with frontline services you will take the project into its next stage. You will engage and consult with domestic abuse court advocacy services, other domestic abuse services, criminal and civil justice partners, Scottish Government and victims and survivors (including the SafeLives Authentic Voice panel).

The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering our Energy and Efficiency outreach project to Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire and will provide a specialist service to people who often experience complex social circumstances, using agreed, person-centred principles for monitoring, auditing and evaluating programme delivery
The successful candidate for this role should have:
- Experience at delivering advice to a wide range of citizens and be familiar with benefit entitlements as well as showing empathy and understanding of the issues faced by our citizens.
- Knowledge and understanding of the environmental, social and economic problems of deprived areas and the roles of the public, private and voluntary sectors in tackling them.
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of the provision of advice to low-income households in energy efficiency or related fields.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work with limited supervision.
- The ability to work with a wide range of people and proven experience of working with vulnerable householders, low income and/or other disadvantaged groups, including a strong understanding of the challenges faced by people living in areas of deprivation in relation to living well.
- Tact and diplomacy when liaising with a wide range of organisations.

Terms and conditions
This post is a fixed-term contract. This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, based in Glasgow. The post holder will be required to adopt a flexible approach to working hours as travel throughout Scotland and occasional additional hours may be required. However, this will be reimbursed through the organisation’s Time off in Lieu scheme.
