Role

Barnardos Ayrshire are recruiting for a highly motivated committed mentor to work within our Shine Womens Mentoring service.

Shine is a national mentoring service for women offenders. The service is provided as a Public Social Partnership (PSP); a strategic partnership between public and voluntary sector organisations. Shine was launched in April 2013 and is now available all across Scotland.

The service is available to all adult females who are:

  • Currently serving a custodial sentence in Scotland of less than four years and not subject to a statutory order or;
  • On remand or;
  • Subject to a Community Payback Order.

Mentoring is a way of helping and supporting people in achieving their goals. The Shine Women's Mentoring service provides women with a mentor who will provide support on a one-to-one basis with many of the issues they might face in the community. A Shine mentor will discuss any issues the woman may have before participation with the programme. This will be done in prison, prior to release or in the community if serving a CPO.

More information on the service can be found at shinementoring.org

The successful candidate is required to demonstrate a level of experience:

  • Working alongside women to coordinate and deliver outcome focused support tailored to individual needs
  • Delivering a variety of interventions in partnership with statutory and third sector colleagues to promote the well-being of women
  • Risk assessment and complex case management
  • Providing detailed assessments and representation within multiagency meetings
  • Developing and delivering evidence informed practice

You should be motivated, driven and have the ability to work on their own initiative and in addition as part of a wider multidisciplinary team

Experience of supporting women affected by multiple adversities is essential, as is an HNC or SVQ3 Health and Social care qualification or equivalent.

Experience of the criminal justice system is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will require working with a high degree of flexibility to meet the needs of the service and as such the post holder will be expected to work evenings and occasional weekends as required.

A car user is essential for this post.
