We are a charity and social enterprise that helps people to navigate the planning system. We support a planning system that is inclusive, positive and innovative, where individuals and communities have the opportunity to shape the future of their place in an impartial, open and inclusive way. Through our facilitation-based approach, we help people participate in the planning system to help ensure that all voices are heard.

We currently have eleven board members and are looking to recruit a new board member to assume the role

of Treasurer.

Board members are expected to take part in quarterly board meetings, these take place for a duration of around two hours, usually in the early evening. Board meetings are hybrid, with the meeting taking place in the office for those who can attend in-person, with the ability to join online for those unable to attend in-person.

The Board focuses on strategic direction and vision rather than organisational management and service delivery. In achieving this, the Board’s key consideration is how to implement the organisation’s charitable aims and objectives and Strategy.

Job Summary

The role of Programme Lead (Training and Reconciliation) is a key new position in supporting Place for Hope’s strategic goal of growing our partnerships with faith communities to support and equip more people to reach their potential as peacemakers.

The Programme Lead will co-ordinate all work related to our new 5-year partnership with the United Reformed Church (URC). The partnership will involve two key areas (i) the development and staged roll-out of a mediation team within the URC who will work ecumenically with the wider Place for Hope Practitioner team; and (ii) embedding the understanding, skills, and confidence in how to deal well with conflict, change and difference through a set programme of trainings.

The Programme Lead will draw on the entire Place for Hope team (staff and volunteers) to develop and deliver an agreed 5-year programme plan. The role will also involve supporting the wider work of Place for Hope, particularly working with our training team to deliver our training programme (online and in-person) with a wide range of partners.

Previous experience of project management, training, as well as excellent organisational and communication skills are essential to the role. The ideal candidate would also have an interest in supporting faith communities to transform conflict and a willingness to undertake CPD provided by Place for Hope to build their knowledge and skills in this area. This is an exciting time to join Place for Hope and play a pivotal role in equipping individuals and faith communities to choose peace in times of fear and division.

BIAS provides professional, 1:1 independent advocacy to a wide range of client groups across the Scottish Borders.

Looking for a highly motivated, experienced Manager to help grow our small, independent charity. Must have experience in a management position. The role involves working closely with our Board of Trustees, representing BIAS externally and you would need proven experience in financial and contract management alongside the ability to provide support to our busy staff team. Based primarily from our Galashiels office, the option of hybrid working may be available.

Job Purpose: To further the work of Relationships Scotland Counselling Highland in line with its charitable objectives.

Main Tasks:

1. To lead the Board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation.
2. To line manage and work in partnership with the Management Team to achieve the mission of Relationships Scotland - Counselling Highland and the Relationships Scotland Network.
3. To optimise the relationship between the Board and the staff team.

Main Duties relating to:

1. Ensuring the Board fulfils its responsibilities:

• To chair meetings of the Board and ensure that it functions effectively and carries out its duties.
• To ensure that Board members set overall strategy and policy objectives.
• To ensure that the Board sets overall strategy and policy objectives
• To ensure that the organisation’s financial dealings are prudently and systematically accounted for, audited and publicly available.
• To monitor that decisions taken at meetings are implemented.
• With the Manager and Trustees, to develop appropriate and relevant agendas for meetings.
• In close consultation with Management make recommendations on the composition of the Board, and future chairs of the Board (with a view to succession).
• To work in consultation with Management to recruit board members and co-optees with specific/relevant expertise.
• To ensure that the Board annually reviews its structure, role, relationship to staff and implements agreed changes as necessary.
• To define and keep under review selection and performance criteria for board members.
• With Management to ensure that all board members receive appropriate advice, training and information relating to their role.
• To serve as an additional spokesperson for or promoter of the charity.

2. Helping Management to achieve the organisation’s mission

• To ensure that the board members develop a long-term strategy for the organisation together with the Management, with objectives that can be monitored.
• To monitor progress of the Relationships Scotland -Counselling Highland Strategic Development Plan
• To ensure that the appropriate resources (personnel, financial, material) are secured with which to achieve the outcomes of the strategy.
• To ensure that the Management Team delivers the annual plan and budget.
• To support, and monitor review the work of the Manager
• To lead the appraisal of all Board Members and the Manager
• To promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential donors and benefactors.

3. Optimising the relationship between board and staff, working with the Manager

• To ensure that the organisation has appropriate procedures
• To comply with the current employment and equal opportunities legislation and good practice
• To receive regular informal progress reports of the organisation’s work through the Manager
• To reflect to the board any concerns staff have in regard to the role of the board, it’s sub-committees or members; to relate the concerns of the board and other constituencies to the Manager
• In consultation with the Manager, to agree an annual calendar of meetings of the members of the board and major events for the organisation.
