Role

Glencassels Community Development Project (GCDP) is a well established Community Organisation located in the housing scheme of Craigneuk, near to Wishaw in North Lanarkshire. It runs a small Neighbourhood Centre known locally as ‘The Venny’, providing a range of recreational, social and educational activities for people of all ages living in the community.

Job Description

We are now seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person to lead a small team of café staff and volunteers in providing; low cost food, healthier options, and an inclusive friendly atmosphere within our community café.

The candidate should have a strong passion for food and community, have excellent customer service and team working skills, and have experience managing money and stock.

The Café Manager will also contribute to the Centre’s programmes in terms of budget cooking and healthy eating.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Community Organisation as it begins a new phase in its development. The successful candidate will lead the management of our café, working closely with the Project Leader and the local community.

Personal Specification

Essential

  • An ability to keep a positive atmosphere, communicate warmly and effectively with people of all ages
  • Professional qualification in a related subject or substantial experience of working in this or a similar context
  • A proven record of working within the hospitality sector
  • Experience of managing staff and/or volunteers
  • Experience of managing money and stock
  • An ability to introduce basic culinary skills to different groups within the Venny
  • Exceptional hospitality skills, the ability to create and maintain a positive, friendly, inclusive, safe and supportive environment
  • Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills
  • An ability to work on ones own initiative and also contribute effectively to the work of a staff team

Desirable

  • Experience working within a community setting
  • Driving licence
