We are seeking to recruit an energetic and efficient individual who will work within a team co-ordinating a Scotland-wide service for deafblind people. The Service Co-ordinator is responsible for maintaining quality standards which meets the needs of deafblind people, funders and stakeholders.

This is a key role within Deafblind Scotland’s Guide/communicator Service, meeting the needs of deafblind people and in line with requirements of funders and registered bodies.

As Service Co-ordinator you will work with service users, external partners and linked providers to provide efficient co-ordination of services procured and administering support services for deafblind people which ensures positive outcomes for service users. The Service Co-ordinator will work with the service and guide/communicator team to ensure a high-quality Guide/communicator service is delivered. The post offers opportunities for innovation working closely with the Services Manager and Head of Operations.

We are recruiting for a Part-Time Service Team Leader who will provide acting up duties to cover Service Manager’s Maternity Leave and thereafter support the Service Manager in the day-to-day delivery of our Guide Communicator service. The post holder will also provide support and supervision to Guide/Communicator staff to ensure service delivery aligns with individual needs, organisational policies, SSSC Codes of Practice, and Care Inspectorate standards.

The post holder will support the Service Manager in ensuring that deafblind people have the opportunity and support to make choices that enable them to lead a full life and promote wellbeing and that their rights are at the heart of all service developments and improvements. The post holder will support the Service Manager in the performance and development of the Guide/communicator service and will hold an important role to ensure that Deafblind people are at the centre of all developments.

Service Manager

This senior management position is to provide cover for maternity leave and is the ideal opportunity for an experienced social care worker looking to progress their career to become a registered manager or an existing registered manager seeking a new challenge. The role will be focused on managing Deafblind Scotland’s Guide/communicator service provision and leading a team of 50+ guide/communicators. The Service Manager will ensure compliance with Care Inspectorate registration requirements and upholding the Scottish Social Service Council and National Care Standards will ensure quality support is available to meet the needs of deafblind people and is delivered in line with requirements of funders and registered bodies.

Do you enjoy planning and creating digital messaging that inspires others to bring lasting change? The digital landscape has changed and grown dramatically over the last 18 months, and this is an exciting time to join our fundraising team as we seek to reach new audiences, innovate digitally and tell engaging stories about the deafblind people we support. You’ll play a key role in managing our social media channels and website content, bringing the stories of people affected by deafblindness to life.

Working within the Fundraising Team, you’ll be highly organised and have experience of working in digital communications, fundraising or marketing. We’re looking for a creative person with plenty of ideas and initiative.

Successful marketing skills are essential, ideally in ‘selling the cause’ for a charity. Superior social media skills with experience of PR; copywriting; using social media for campaigning and/or marketing purposes are very important too. Highly organised, you should easily build rapport and develop relationships with a variety of different individuals, organisations, and groups. It is desirable that you have a knowledge of the charitable sector and be a member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising or a willingness to join. Project Worker - Carers Advice Project (Fife)

The Carers Advice Project is a support service for carers, and those carers may themselves have a sensory impairment as well as or instead of the person they care for, in Fife, to access their rights so they can have a better quality of life and to reduce socio-economic and health inequalities. This post will also involve travel across Fife with some travel required to & from our office in Kirkintilloch.

Deafblind Scotland provides information & specialist knowledge in many inclusive forms of communication relied on by people with sensory loss including Braille/Moon, BSL/Tactile BSL, Deafblind Manual & Audio.

The project worker will work with the carers affected by sensory impairment within this new project which is part of our existing Connect2Support Programme. Overall ensuring the carers affected by sensory impairment, who are amongst the most disadvantaged in society, are provided with specialist support which enables them & those they care for to access their rights and navigate the systems and services that can improve their lives.

We are seeking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced person to develop learning, social and cultural activities, opportunities and programmes for deafblind people, using Deafblind Scotland’s Learning and Development centre as a local, regional and national resource and developing outreach hubs for deafblind people or those who have a severe single sensory impairment and are at risk of a second sensory impairment, whether that is a sight or hearing loss to access support and activities locally. In reaching out to more deafblind people across Scotland, and as we progress post-Covid, you will promote engagement through accessible technology, utilising online platforms for activities and supporting virtual connection for people. Therefore, recreating our Learning and Development Centre in a virtual form so that we create a virtual centre that will bring people together.

The post holder will design and promote programmes of activities and learning opportunities which address our key priorities and working in partnership with other services and agencies you will identify opportunities for raising awareness of both the rights and potential of deafblind people and encouraging the provision and co-ordination of a range of activities, services and support with focus on growing our peer leadership programmes and approaches.

This is a key role working alongside senior management to identify opportunities to achieve Deafblind Scotland’s vision and strategy and helping to implement and develop our mission of a society where deafblind people in Scotland can live as rightful members of their own community. Engaging at a local and national level to garner support, funding and interest for the development of these activities and learning opportunities.

Good written and report writing skills are essential as is the ability to work to tight timescales including the ability to prioritise tasks. It is desirable that you have a suitable social work, health, counselling, social care qualification or equivalent with experience of developing projects and achieving project objectives. Possession of British Sign Language skills is desirable, or a willingness to learn, and an enthusiasm to learn about deafblind people and their rights is essential.

The Dare to Dream Lived Experience Project (D2D) will focus on building peer leadership skills and opportunities for deafblind people. Aligning with the Scottish Government’s commitment to build a fairer nation.

The project worker will work with deafblind people and the Scottish Advisory Group on Deafblindness (SAGoD), who Deafblind Scotland (DbS) hosts, to support deafblind people to increase their capacity to engage with national policy and service developments. Ensuring deafblind people, who are amongst the most disadvantaged in society, have a voice and are heard. Raising Deafblind people’s ambitions using this moment in time, as Scotland comes out of COVID-19 Pandemic, focused on building back fairer.

This role will also involve working with deafblind people to support them to help shape our Dare to Dream strategy, ensuring that it is genuinely built with the perspective of deafblind people. Enabling deafblind people to shape a Deafblind Scotland where they can ‘Dare to Dream’ and a society where these dreams may be realised.
