NUS Charity is an exciting organisation developing and championing strong students’ unions. We connect our members and curate services to deliver advice, guidance and crisis support to students’ associations and unions across the UK.

We do professional differently. We are a progressive charity representing students’ unions. The sector is inclusive, fun, dynamic and representative and we put students and students’ unions at the heart of everything we do. We are challenging but are committed to creating a supportive and flexible environment which pushes your personal development in your everyday activity.

What we do

Students’ unions can be transformational hubs for students, staff, and wider society. NUS Charity support our member’s development to enhance their capacity and harness opportunities to maximise their positive impact. We do this in many ways, from managing a purchasing consortium to drive great value for our members, to our development activity, supporting the best potential in students’ unions - we strive to make a difference to our members.

Within our small Union Development team we deal with a range of organisational development work, whether that’s being the Returning Officer and supporting students’ union elections, running development events/webinars, helping new students’ unions create the structures that they need, coaching a students’ union leader who needs extra support, or creating guidance on new legislation that will affect students’ unions – no two days are the same.

What we need

NUS Charity is looking for a Development Consultant to strengthen organisational development for our members, predominantly in Scotland. We’re looking to diversify the knowledge within our team to deliver high quality projects in organisational development based on our Quality Students’ Unions framework and other relevant benchmarking tools. We’re also part-funded by the Scottish Funding Council to provide specific developmental support for College Students’ Associations across Scotland. You don’t need to have worked in students’ unions before, but working in a membership/governance/charity environment would be a bonus.

This role will be based at home, with travel across Scotland and the UK to meet members and to deliver and attend events fairly regularly.

About Street Soccer

Street Soccer is a charity using football to create lasting change in the lives of isolated and excluded adults and young people. We run 60 sessions a week of free, inclusive and judgement-free football. These sessions provide person-centred support to players facing a number of challenges including mental health, homelessness, long term unemployment, problem substance use, criminal justice and seeking asylum. Our mission is to create hope and opportunity for all.

We support thousands of players a year on their journey to positive change by providing a safe space, trusting relationships and a sense of belonging. We fight isolation and exclusion by bringing people together, building confidence and creating supportive communities. We support people of all ages and backgrounds through relationship-based support, focusing on trust and personal development, supporting everyone to set and achieve their own goals. Thanks to the support of Street Soccer, 82% of players say that their quality of life has improved.

Lived experience is at the heart of what we do, with over 80% of our staff having lived experience of the challenges our players face.

97% of players think that Street Soccer is a unique organisation. With 15 years of experience delivering positive change through football, we are now working in more communities than ever, with city hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and South London, as well as a network of sessions across 6 other local authorities.

To support our work, we generate income through a range of fundraising and income-generating initiatives, including donations, high-profile fundraising events, social enterprise initiatives and grant funding from trusts and foundations. These efforts are underpinned by inspiring storytelling, strategic marketing, and meaningful partnerships that connect our supporters with the impact of our work.

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team and drive forward our business engagement strategy. This is a key role in the Income Generation Team, responsible for securing, developing and managing strategic partnerships with companies that share our values and want to make a difference.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation to develop meaningful partnerships that generate income, raise awareness and create new ways for people to engage with Street Soccer. This role is key to strengthening our long-term sustainability, expanding our profile and supporter base, and ultimately creating more opportunities for the players we support across the country.

Experience working in the non-profit sector is desirable but not essential. We also welcome applicants from commercial sectors with a strong background in sales, partnerships or account management who can demonstrate an understanding of values led work and relationship-based engagement.

Main Purpose of Job: Development Worker (Community)

Move On works in Scotland to unlock the potential of vulnerable young people and adults, enabling a positive future and improving people's lives. From our bases in Glasgow and Edinburgh we provide a range of services including mentoring, training, peer education, volunteering opportunities, guidance, support, advice and information.

We are looking for a Development Worker to lead and develop the delivery of our range of community-based employability programmes. The role will support adults to access and sustain an integrated employability programme, gaining practical work experience, skills and vocational training, including SQA qualifications. This Development Worker role will provide structured key work support, working with individuals to develop and work towards individual action plans.

This role will also involve working closely with local employers and wider partners.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

• Support individuals on a one-to-one basis to work towards their agreed goals.
• Provide a range of structured support to both young people and adults which may include face to face appointments, telephone support, mentoring support, or group meetings.
• Working with clients to create individual action plans and assessments to track, evaluate and monitor their progress on their employability journey.
• Complete case recording, monitoring and evaluations using various case management systems and databases.
• Achieve agreed targets and ensure compliance when recording outcomes and progressions on recording systems.
• Work in partnership with the wider Move On team and other agencies to link clients in with training, support and advice opportunities and ensure an integrated approach.
• Establish good external relationships and develop links with statutory and voluntary organisations to promote and develop all Move On’s services.
• Ensure that the safety and welfare of individuals are protected in accordance with Move On’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Follow and adhere to Move On’s Lone Working Policy when working with clients in the community.
• Participate in team meetings, regular support & supervision and training.
• Undertake any other duties or tasks which may be reasonably considered within the remit of the post.

• Shaping and delivering services – ability to provide a flexible response to the changing needs and circumstances of individual accessing programmes;
• Supporting volunteers to play a positive role, imparting valuable information and experiences to people to support their transition towards independence;

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a world leading youth charity which gives young people the chance to develop skills for work and life.

Our structured programmes of volunteering, physical and skills based challenges inspire, guide, and encourage young people to widen their experiences and learn new skills.

Through a licensing process, we partner with youth organisations and support them in their delivery of our programmes to their young people. These organisations range from schools and colleges to local authorities, charities, secure units, and community organisations.

Through our current five year strategy Youth Without Limits, we are working to ensure the DofE is open to all young people aged 14-24 across the UK, and that our participants reflect the most diverse generation of young people ever.

What is the role?

Working within our values and behavioural framework, the role involves closely managing the relationships of our partner organisations (known as Licensed Organisations – LOs) and ensuring those within your portfolio offer quality and inclusive DofE programmes to young people.

While managing these relationships, across your portfolio area you will also identify and develop new relationships with appropriate educational and community organisations to widen the access of the DofE to young people.

You will be undertaking regular meetings, in person and virtually, engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders at different levels within different organisations across your portfolio area. When not out at meetings, you will be working from home.

Whilst you won’t be working directly with young people, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are having a positive impact on their future opportunities.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a team player who has a passion for the development of young people and who will be enthusiastic, who can engage and influence a variety of stakeholders and who will be an authentic ambassador for the DofE.

You will need to have good communication and interpersonal skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders and have the skills to inspire and influence them to enable young people to participate in DofE.

To undertake the role, you’ll need to be exceptionally organised, have the ability to prioritise your workload, meet deadlines and have excellent administrative skills, being both computer literate and competent in MS Office applications.

We are looking for someone who has a positive outlook and who will actively contribute to our team.

The role will be mixture of home based and field based, The successful application should live within, or very close to, the portfolio area with a full driving/motorbike licence and access to a vehicle.
