Role

Aberlour is looking to recruit 2 Peripatetic Residential Child Care Workers to work with our children’s houses in Fife to help with the smooth running of the lives of the children who live with us. Peripatetic Residential Workers allow us to be more responsive to the needs of the houses enabling us to help our houses to fill any gaps that come up, be they during the day to help children attend school or other learning provision, in the evenings enabling the children to undertake specific activities or at night, either to cover night shifts or to help the adults settle children at night. Post holders, therefore, need to be flexible and adaptable and be able to work across all our houses in Fife and be available at short notice to work across the full span of the day across the full week, including weekends.

The successful candidates will be contracted to work 20 hours a week however, there will be opportunities for you to pick up additional hours.

Our children expect the adults to be enthusiastic, kind, loving and compassionate. Post holders need to be playful, accepting, curious and empathetic and be able to bring these qualities to work. We work in a therapeutic way to support our children and young people who live in our houses – our children will all have had experience of poverty and trauma.

You should be able to work in a nurturing way, enabling the children and young people to feel safe and loved. We are looking for individuals who will help us to achieve our vision, which is to:

We support adults who work with children be as effective as they can be, and a wide variety of learning and development opportunities are available to support staff to employ best practice in their work and be exceptional role models for the children and for staff. These include full level one training in Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP), child protection, child development, understanding and responding positively to behaviour as well as access to a Clinical Psychologist to support adults to be as effective as they can be in their work with children.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a culture based on respect, integrity, innovationand the ability to challenge.

You will report to the Admissions and Programmes Manager who will allocate the work to you on an ongoing basis depending on an assessment of where the greatest need sits at the time.
