Role

As part of the organisation’s dynamic Direct Services team, you will be responsible for coordinating the Counselling Service and developing bereavement support for people affected by MND and their families.

MND Scotland is looking for someone to coordinate the provision of counselling, listening and bereavement services for people with MND and their loved ones. Helping them develop increased emotional resilience in the face of difficult circumstances.

You will assess the clients’ needs and match them with the most appropriate support pathway. Over time you will contribute to, or lead, development of the service as needed and in line with regulation and good practice, including development of further Listening and Bereavement services.

You will be a highly motivated individual, with at least 3 years’ experience of counselling, have excellent communication skills and enjoy new challenges. A clear understanding of good customer service and the importance of maintaining high standards of work at all times is essential. As well as an awareness of the barriers faced by people with significant illness in society.

Reporting to the Head of Direct Services, you will:

  • Directly manage the Counselling service.
  • Maintain sufficient numbers of Counsellors to provide services by telephone, on line or in person to all appropriate applicants, through ongoing recruitment and retention.
  • Provide non Counselling training for Counsellors in relation to their role, and to MND.
  • Assess all applicants for suitability for Counselling, and for Counsellor/client match, or for signposting to external services when the referral is inappropriate for counselling.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the organisation’s mission to reduce the impact of MND on the lives of those affected today and provide hope for a world without MND tomorrow.
