Who we are looking for

We’re looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated individuals who share our mission of empowering young adults with additional support needs to lead fuller lives.

You will be a strong team player with great communication skills, have the ability to work under pressure, and above all be passionate and committed to the development of the young adults within the project.

You will need to be willing to undergo training and to work under the guidance of the project leaders.

Job Purpose

The role involves managing a kitchen session where the purpose is to enable a group of up to six young adults with additional support needs to prepare food items which will be for sale at local markets and events. In this role you will work with one other supporting member of staff and, when appropriate, volunteers, to facilitate the smooth and safe running of the session. You will provide excellent support to the young adults using agreed methods, and will ensure that other staff do likewise. Training in supporting adults with additional support needs in this setting will be given to the successful candidate. You will demonstrate high standards of food hygiene and kitchen safety at all times.

You will need

  • An interest in working with young adults with additional support needs including autism.
  • Competency in the kitchen and a knowledge of food preparation.
  • To be educated to FE level or above
  • Emotional and physical resilience to meet the challenges and demands of the role.
  • Experience of working with children and/or adults with additional support needs (desirable).
  • To be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene qualification or above (or willing to undertake this qualification prior to starting the role)
