The HDS will be a member of the Ayrshire Huntington’s disease specialist service based in the Douglas Grant Rehabilitation Centre, Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine, whilst also being part of the wider SHA multidisciplinary teams. The service covers all geographical areas within Ayrshire & Arran. Operational areas of the service include the direct provision of support, advice, assessment and care management planning for individuals and their families whose lives are impacted by HD, promotion of a self-help model amongst families and increasing awareness of Huntington’s disease (HD) and raising awareness of the HD Care Framework ensuring equality of care across Lothian.
The primary function is to facilitate quality care for those with HD and their families through specialist assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and signposting to appropriate professionals/ agencies. The post holder will also provide up to date HD training sessions and information regarding current clinical trials and research to all H&SCP’s, other professional and voluntary bodies and family members. Caseloads can be complex and emotionally challenging but equally rewarding. In addition the HDS will work with the Senior HD Specialist and wider teams in supporting any new developments within the Ayrshire service and across the Adult Clinical Service.
