There are two part-time Link Worker positions available, both 22.5 hours per week.
The Care Shelter runs through the winter months to provide shelter for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough in Edinburgh. Link Workers are employed to carry out provisional homeless assessments in the Care Shelter thereby operating an outreach housing assessment service on location.
Link Workers will be employed by Bethany Christian Trust but will work very closely with City of Edinburgh Council staff, receiving training and ongoing guidance on the homeless assessment process.
You will work partly at the Care Shelter (evening hours are between 8pm and 11pm), interacting with guests and taking people through provisional homeless assessments. The remaining hours will consist of follow-up work to collect the necessary evidence for the assessments. This will be based at City of Edinburgh Council Offices at Waverley Gate.
Ideally, applicants will have knowledge of homelessness legislation, experience of working with homeless and vulnerable people and of working in a multi-agency environment.
Good IT skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to operate on own initiative and work without direct supervision are essential for the role.
As Bethany is a Christian organisation this post carries an Occupational Requirement in line with Equality Act 2010, applicants should have and be able to evidence an active Christian faith and commitment. Successful applicants for this post will require an enhanced disclosure and membership of the PVG scheme.
