This is an exciting opportunity to apply for a new Policy Manager role with Scottish Women’s Aid. This role will ensure that Scottish Women’s Aid continues to influence and respond effectively to the changing policy and legislative landscape in Scotland, in relation to domestic abuse and the human rights of women and children affected by domestic abuse.

The Organisation

Scottish Women’s Aid has worked for over 40 years to eradicate domestic abuse and promote effective policy and practice responses for women, children and young people who experience domestic abuse. Policy and campaigning work is a key part of what we do, and we are the umbrella organisation for 36 autonomous Women’s Aid groups delivering direct services to women, children and young people across Scotland.

What You’ll Do

Key to the role is the identification of policy priorities and resource allocation, thus ensuring effective delivery of policy, advocacy and campaigning work. You will develop a plan for the longer-term development of the policy function to deliver policy and social change, whilst also developing and delivering policy and strategies, based on evidence and engagement with the WA network. You will manage and support a small team of policy workers to plan their work and objectives. Some travel may be required from time to time.

What We Need

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of analysing government and public policy reports, and of researching, developing and writing a range of policy and advocacy materials. You will have a track record of building and maintaining alliances and networks with key stakeholders, and representing organisations externally. Line management experience is also essential.

We’re looking for someone who has

  • Knowledge and understanding of Scottish and UK policy and legislative context in relation to violence against women and children and domestic abuse in Scotland, and a gendered analysis of domestic abuse
  • Knowledge and understanding of policy advocacy and public affairs
  • Expertise in a relevant policy area such as health or education would also be helpful, as would an understanding of women’s aid network.
