Project Worker posts (Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Service)

Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith, Midlothian. MYPAS has been successful in gaining funding from Midlothian and East Lothian Drug and Alcohol Partnership (MELDAP) to provide young people’s drug and alcohol support services in East Lothian. This is an exciting new initiative and the first time MYPAS will provide services within East Lothian.

MYPAS will recruit two Project Workers to develop and provide young people focussed, needs-led, friendly, confidential and non-judgemental drug and alcohol service for:

  • Young people (aged 12 to 19) in East Lothian

The new service will offer:

  1. Individual support for young people
  2. Group work programmes in all East Lothian schools
  3. Staff training
  4. Support for families

There is no specific qualification required; however, the post holder will be expected to be educated to degree level. This should be in a relevant field such as Health, Community Education, Social Work or Education, but significant equivalent experience will also be considered. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. This post will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.

Place of work: The administrative base is in Dalkeith. Travel throughout East Lothian, including operating from other venues, will be required.

Special conditions:

  • The Project Worker posts are funded for an initial 2 years. Further 2 year continuation funding is dependent on the progress of the initial 2 year pilot.
  • The posts will involve regular evening and occasional weekend working.
  • Post holders must be able to travel across East Lothian. The full time post holder will require a driving license and it is essential that they have access to their own vehicle.
