If so, Nesta in Scotland is looking for a driven Senior Communications Officer to join our team where, alongside our central Nesta communications directorate in London, you will lead on the development and implementation of targeted engagement and communications plans for Nesta in Scotland and our associated projects, partnerships and programmes.

We are particularly interested in the potential of digital and data-driven innovation to help tackle some of the big social challenges facing Scotland today. Working across Nesta’s five strategic priority areas – government innovation, innovation policy, health, education and the creative economy – we collaborate with local partners in Scotland to create inspiring, influential and demonstrably impactful innovation interventions.
About this exciting opportunity
This key role will see our successful candidate focus on the development and coordination of our communications activities in Scotland, working closely and collaboratively as part of Nesta’s UK-wide communications team. You will support your colleagues to maximise the impact of UK-wide communications activity that has a bearing in Scotland and ensure we comply fully with the requirements of the Scottish Lobbying Act. You will also:
· Lead the relationship of Nesta in Scotland with the Scottish media
· Write and disseminate press releases, blogs and op-eds in support of Nesta’s work in Scotland
· Support the production, coordination of content for and dissemination of regular stakeholder newsletters
· Support colleagues to map, prioritise, nurture and build high-value stakeholder relationships that expand Nesta in Scotland’s impact and influence
· Represent Nesta in Scotland and our issues in meetings with stakeholders and partners
What we are looking for
Alongside your demonstrable communication skills, you will have a proven track record of impactful and effective media relations and knowledge of the Scottish media landscape. You will be an outstanding communicator, both verbal and written, with a proven ability to tailor content to a range of different audiences and proven experience of writing and publishing web content and generating content for social media channels.
You will also have the ability to successfully map, manage and develop a wide range of stakeholder relationships, especially with third sector and research organisations, while a willingness to work proactively across a range of projects as part of a small team within a larger, multi-faceted organisation, is also vital.
