Role

JOIN A DYNAMIC TEAM AT THE FOREFRONT OF TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE, WORKING WITH ONE OF THE UK'S FASTEST GROWING BUSINESS SECTORS

The Confederation of Forest Industries (Confor) is the UK representative body for the forestry and wood processing sector.

Planting more trees and promoting an increasing use of wood-based products will play an ever more important role in tackling climate change and contributing to a green economy. This is an opportunity for you to be a key player in a team at the very forefront of the UK’s ambitions for climate change mitigation and securing a Green Recovery from Covid-19. An opportunity to help make a real difference.

The forestry and wood processing sector has experienced rapid growth in recent decades, not only in the number and variety of jobs available but also its contribution to the economy and in its increasing political significance. Confor has a key role to play in supporting the future growth of the sector, including through working with governments across the UK to provide a supportive policy environment, with targeted grants and partnership working on key industry development matters.

Confor is seeking a self-starter with a background and experience in policy development and political engagement to work with the Chief Executive and colleagues to raise understanding and support for the sector in political circles and develop relationships with key organisations across the UK.

The successful candidate will be able to analyse complex documents and produce clear advice, be able to plan and deliver influencing campaigns, have strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to build and maintain relationships with people holding a range of views. Knowledge of sustainability and/or rural matters would be an advantage, but not required.

This is a permanent full-time post. Location is anticipated to be Edinburgh, but this can be flexible.
