Do you believe that every child deserves the chance to flourish?
Could you bring enthusiasm and fun to a young person’s life?
Are you interested in developing your skills and experience in working therapeutically with young people?
If so, we would like to hear from you.
We are looking to recruit a Residential Worker for a permanent post with our team in Inverness, working in a residential house which is home for up to five young people. We have a core team of Residential Workers who support these very vulnerable young people, helping them to achieve and overcome the challenges they face. At Aberlour we believe that every child deserves the chance to flourish regardless of their background and the circumstances that have brought them to live with Aberlour. The children we support are presently not able to live safely with their own families and many of them have suffered from trauma and loss in their young lives. Working therapeutically with the young people, using a Dyadic Developmental approach, our aim is to help the young people to develop their confidence and self-worth and therefore to maximise their potential and opportunities for living fulfilled and happy lives.
This is a permanent post for 70 hours per month..
Nights of working will be negotiable between the successful candidate and the manager. Working nights, you will play a crucial role, providing security to the young people if any of them are unable to sleep or become unsettled during the night. This can be particularly difficult for the young people and your ability to adopt a calm and comforting approach is a key skill to help them through these difficult experiences.
Young people have told us that they like staff who:
“Will keep me safe at night”
“Are confident to have fun and be silly with me – who don’t sit back and just watch”
“Are honest and truthful”
“Like makeup and fashion”
“Want to spend time with me one to one”
Our residential service in Inverness is one of two houses that Aberlour runs in the Highlands. Our experienced teams of staff seek to create a comfortable home for the young people where they can grow and flourish, participating in educational and community activities to achieve their goals.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a culture based on respect, integrity, innovation and the ability to challenge. Through a wide variety of learning and development opportunities we support our staff to be as effective as they can be, equipping them to employ best practice in their work and to be exceptional role models for the children and for staff.
