Visibility Scotland is one of the leading and oldest sight loss charities in Scotland. We pride ourselves on our
creativity, innovation and team work! At Visibility Scotland we know you don’t need sight to have vision.
We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity to join our Children, Young People and Families team! This
full-time post is partly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Visibility Scotland are seeking to
recruit a Qualified Habilitation Specialist or someone who is currently undergoing the Habilitation course to
provide a person centred Habilitation service that meets the specific needs of children and young people who
live with a visual impairment. The post holder will be expected to build upon existing relationships and forge
new partnerships with professionals and other organisations to ensure Visibility Scotland is positively
represented at a local and national level.
The post holder will provide multi–disciplinary support to ensure connectivity and access to all services for each
service user. The Habilitation programme will provide an innovative tool-kit of strategies that will aim to
provide each child or young person with the knowledge and skills to develop their confidence, independence and
long term resilience. The key areas that support and training cover are mobility, travel, independent living
skills and technology.
Candidates will be expected to have a sound knowledge of visual impairment and how visual impairment and additional
disabilities can impact children, young people and their families.
This post will include some evening and weekend working as well as travel across Central Scotland. The successful
candidate must be flexible, highly motivated and be able to work as part of a team but also work independently
when required.
Please note that the post comes with a £5,000 relocation lump sum and either access to a pool car or a car
allowance.
