JustRight Scotland is excited to announce that we are seeking to appoint at least two skilled and committed members to our Board of Trustees. These new Board members will also be appointed to the Board of the new social enterprise of JustRight Scotland, JRS Knowhow.

The successful candidates will play an important part in supporting the continuing success of JustRight Scotland and overseeing the development of JRS Knowhow.

We are looking for candidates who have skills and experience relevant to both roles. Training will be provided.

Expected commitment

Number of positions: At least 2

Term of appointment: 3 years, renewable

Location: Meetings in central Glasgow and central Edinburgh (currently online)

Time commitment: Around 8 days per year comprising; attendance at meetings (weekday evenings and Saturdays), subject to the needs of the organisation, and reasonable email correspondence and preparation for meetings.

Who are JustRight Scotland?

JustRight Scotland (JRS) is Scotland's legal centre for justice and human rights. We use the law to defend and extend people’s rights. All our projects work in areas in which gaps in access to justice lead to discrimination and disadvantage. We believe in inclusion and social justice collaboration, which means that we work with other organisations to develop new ways to provide expert legal advice and information and influence law and policy. We have already established successful projects advancing women’s rights, supporting migrants and assisting victims of trafficking.

JRS Knowhow

JRS Knowhow is a social enterprise which has been established to develop and deliver training, knowledge transfer and skills development in law and human rights. It will help people and organisations share great ideas and teach important skills, using technology and best practice in accessible methods of learning.

The role of Trustee

You will help us shape the future of our innovative charity and social enterprise. This important role involves sharing responsibility for JRS’ governance and strategy and ensuring the charity and social enterprise is administered effectively and in accordance with law.

Your skills and experience

Essential criteria

Skills in strategic oversight, organisational development and team working.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships

A commitment to the promotion of human rights and social justice for all people in Scotland

Ability to understand basic accounts and finance (training is also provided

Eligible to be a charity trustee under s69 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (see legislation.gov.uk/asp/2005/10/part/1/chapter/9 for details). PVG check required.

Desirable criteria

Demonstrable understanding of the governance of a social enterprise, or experience of developing, delivering, or managing remote learning

Experience of business planning, especially in the context of a new start-up.

Background in any of the following, whether in public, private or charity sector: governance, strategy, policy, IT/digital, fundraising and income generation, communications, human resources, finance, audit and risk.

Peace & Justice (Scotland) seek a Coordinator to lead the delivery and development of both the teaching resources and the team of sessional worker Facilitators on our Peacebuilding in Primary Schools programme.

The PeaceBuilders programme consists of two components, Cooperative Games and Conflict Resolution, and Collaborative Classrooms. We have delivered the 8 week Cooperative Games course to 52 class groups in 25 schools. The course helps children in primary schools gain the skills required to establish positive relationships and address conflict constructively.

The new in development Collaborative Classrooms course builds on Cooperative Games. We provide teachers, staff and pupils with bespoke trainings in Nonviolent Communication, a Restorative Approach to Conflict Resolution, Circle Keeping and Peer Mediation while building toward a whole school approach. The post holder will lead on completing development and delivery of this part of the programme.

This is an open contract - initially for one year - extension subject to funding. Due to COVID restrictions this role can be carried out remotely in the first instance. though the post holder will need carry out some in person work in Central Scotland in the long term, probably starting from 2022.

Partners in Advocacy is a charity providing independent advocacy, which means that we help children and young people exercise their rights and share their views with the people around them.

We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who has a passion for working with children and young people – to join our dynamic and friendly team within our Children’s Hearings Service.

Experience of providing independent advocacy and/or working with vulnerable children and young people is desirable, but not essential. Full training and support will be provided for the duration of the post.

You will need a clean driving licence and access to a roadworthy vehicle. We are currently working from home, but there will be a requirement to travel when restrictions are eased. PVG Scheme membership will be a requirement of the post – this will be arranged by us on appointment.

Purpose

To provide leadership to the organisation, ensuring the successful delivery and future development of our independent advocacy service.

CONTEXT OF THE ROLE:

This post is responsible for the following key areas: responsible for all aspects of the day to day management of the Forth Valley Advocacy Service day-to-day case management and allocation of advocacy cases, risk and governance management and contracts management.

About Forth Valley Advocacy

Based in Larbert, FVA has been delivering independent advocacy to the people of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling for over 25 years. We support people with a broad range of needs including mental health problems, learning disabilities, autism and dementia, helping them to have a stronger voice and as much control as possible over their own lives. We help people to get the information they need to make choices about the care they receive and support them to put their views across to others. We may speak on behalf of people who cannot do so for themselves.

We are funded by a consortium comprising NHS Forth Valley and Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Councils to provide a free service to people who are having decisions made about their care or treatment under legislation relating to incapacity, mental health or need for support or protection. The current contract ends on 30th October 2021 and the re-tendering process is currently underway.

In 2003, we became a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. We are as free as possible from any conflicts of interest - the board, management and advocacy workers are not under the control of health or social services.
