Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity.

SAMH has represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years.

Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.

SAMH is currently looking to recruit Support Workers for the Community Directions service based in the Calton area of Glasgow. Community Directions provides medium to long term social care and housing support to men and women aged 18+ with a history of alcohol/substance misuse and complex needs, who are homeless (or at risk of becoming homeless) and who have expressed the view that they will, or are likely to continue to, misuse alcohol/substance often to what is considered to be dangerous levels.

You will provide practical and emotional support and assist service users in daily living and social skills to enable them to sustain their tenancy. The service promotes independent living and supports service users identify goals and aspirations to maximise quality of life and recovery. You will help to encourage and support individuals to re-engage with other agencies such as health and addictions services, and education and employment agencies. The service operates, 365 days a year.

As the position will involve a variety of shift patterns including evenings, weekends you will be flexible in the hours and shifts you are available to work.

You will be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a mature attitude together with adaptability and enthusiasm. Knowledge and experience in supporting people with mental health problems is desirable.
