About the Role

Are you interested in joining an award-winning Scottish charity supporting people whose lives are affected by mental ill-health? Support in Mind Scotland head offices have an exciting and rare opening for an office professional with a passion for numbers looking to use their skills and experience in financial management to join our Finance team and manage the day-to-day operation of our organisation’s Finance department.

In this varied role, you will work alongside the Head of Finance, the Fundraising and HR teams, to ensure suppliers, staff and statutory bodies receive timely payments; and support with funding applications to allow us to maintain or develop existing and new services.

As our Finance Officer, joining the charity’s head office team based in Edinburgh, you will have the opportunity to use your skills to make a wide-ranging impact on the organisation by developing and improving our financial systems and controls, in order to enable staff to spend more time delivering services to those who need them.

This is a critical role reporting to the Head of the Finance Department and you will assist them in ensuring the organisation has efficient and effective financial management. You will be involved in all aspects of the charities financial activities and work across the full range of mental health support services we provide across Scotland.

Who are we looking for?

The role requires financial as well as management accounting skills and strong technical and excel skills. You should have excellent knowledge of Accounting and Payroll systems and the ability to implement new systems and processes that have evolved as part of our learning throughout the period of the pandemic.

You will use your expertise to provide support on budgets and financial processes

You will have the skills and aptitude to accurately maintain our computer-based finance records. With excellent IT skills, you are a proficient user of spreadsheets, word processing and email applications.

With excellent numeracy skills, you pay meticulous attention to detail and have the aptitude and skills to learn on the job.

Self-motivated, honest and hardworking, you have a positive outlook and know how to work as part of a team, and your good written and verbal communication, allow you to clearly communicate financial matter to a wide range of people.

An ability to self-manage and carry out tasks with minimum supervision is essential. You know how to plan, manage and prioritise a varied workload, meet deadlines. You can take the initiative when required and respond flexibly to unforeseen events.
