Keep Scotland Beautiful is your charity for Scotland’s environment. We work with you to help combat climate change, reduce litter and waste, and protect and enhance the places we care for. We support the ambitions of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

What the role is

Our Community Climate Officer will support a diverse range of communities to understand the climate emergency, envision a low carbon future and develop and deliver plans to reduce their carbon emissions and foster a more sustainable community. This role will also provide capacity building support and climate emergency training as part of our wider portfolio of community and training programmes.

Building on successful pilots in Kirriemuir and Tayvallich and working across our wide network of community groups and organisations, we will support seven communities to produce a tailored community climate action plan. The post holder will monitor the progress of the two existing communities in the implementation of their plans so that we can learn from their experiences and feedback learning into the process for new groups. We will work with other partners working on place-based approaches and in particular explore links with the Improvement Service and Architecture and Design Scotland. In addition, the post holder will help develop, promote and deliver our community-facing Climate Emergency training across Scotland.

What you’ll need to have

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with experience of supporting communities, organisations and businesses on climate action and sustainable development including the provision of training on a range of environmental topics (climate change in particular).

You will have project management (including budget) experience, a good understanding and awareness of climate change policy and science within Scotland, UK and internationally and a proven track record of presenting complex information clearly to a range of audiences.

You will be working with a range of communities therefore having the ability to create, maintain and enhance working partnerships is essential for this role as is strong facilitation and groupwork skills.

The post holder will require to have a full, valid UK driving licence and this post is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure Scotland (PVG) check.
