The Role

Gilmerton Road Short Breaks is located in South Edinburgh. Gilmerton Road supports young people and their families from the Lothians age 5-18 with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.

You will lead, inspire and motivate your team to deliver meaningful support that changes children's lives. Working with the Registered Manager you will be responsible for creating and maintaining the culture across the services that seeks to support staff to provide high quality care in our short breaks service.

Residential Team leader is a dual role that offering direct support to the young people while undertaking administrative and organisational tasks.

Working in residential care is both challenging and rewarding. Our aim is to give every young person we work with the support and guidance to reach their potential and support their aspirations for a positive future, and this is a vital part of our work.

This role will be working 37 hours a week on a 2 weekly shift pattern, offering every second weekend off. Shifts from 7am to 2.30pm and 2pm to 9.30pm.

You will make a difference by:

-Providing direct line management to a team of residential staff to deliver high standards of care.

-Support staff team development through training opportunities, staff supervision, and multidisciplinary working.

-Leading shifts and working with the Registered Manager to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organisational policy and procedure.

-Work to achieve positive outcomes for individual children and young people and contributing to the achievement of an outstanding, good or equivalent rating in external inspection including deputising in the absence of the Registered Manager.

You will need:

-Previous experience of supervising staff

-Significant experience of working with children and young people with Learning Disabilities

-Confident in all aspects of MS Office

-Experience of coaching and supporting staff to reach a competent standard

-HNC Social care & SVQ Children and young people or equivalent

-SVQ4 in leadership and management or willing to work towards

-Ability to work under pressure while maintaining drive and enthusiasm

-To be able to effectively and safely deal with children and young people with challenging behaviour

-Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

-Good knowledge of Safeguarding, and keeping young people safe

-To be SSSC registered
