About Us:

Moving On Inverclyde is a community-based service supporting recovery from problematic substance use (alcohol and drugs) in Inverclyde. It is an active partner in a local network of services and supports for people in Inverclyde affected by drugs and alcohol. It provides a range of interventions through one-to-one and groupwork support to adults over 18.

A number of Moving On service users present with backgrounds of trauma affecting their mental health, related to issues including adverse childhood experiences, sexual, physical or emotional abuse, and bereavement, amongst others.

The Role:

The Counsellor will provide support to service users via 8-week blocks of one-to-one counselling, addressing issues relating to their mental health and/or trauma.

The Postholder will hold a recognised counselling qualification at Diploma level (e.g. COSCA), with a minimum of 200 post-qualifying client hours, and will be accredited with the BACP, COSCA, UKCP or equivalent.

Reporting to the Service Manager, the role will involve:

  • Acting as a member of Moving On team in the delivery of its recovery programme
  • Identifying and assessing the needs of referrals from Moving On colleagues for mental health and trauma counselling
  • Negotiating and delivering 8-session blocks of counselling
  • Maintaining clear written records of work with service users
  • Maintaining clear written and verbal communications, both internally and with a range of external agencies
  • Taking part in reviews of service users’ recovery plans
  • Taking part in regular team and case meetings and service user reviews
  • Receiving external, professional supervision for the counselling role and caseload at a frequency of 90 minutes per month (paid for by Moving On)
  • Assisting as a team member in the ongoing evaluation and development of Moving On
  • Acting in a professional and respectful manner to everyone at all times
  • Following SSSC, COSCA and BACP codes of conduct and ethics at all times
