Role

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with the blood cancer myeloma and related conditions. We are now looking to appoint a Peer Programme Co-ordinator to join our Healthcare Advocacy Services Team.

To realise our long-term ambition to make myeloma history, we relentlessly pursue better outcomes for myeloma patients and patients with related conditions through a comprehensive early diagnosis programme, a unique research portfolio, our treatment access strategy, information and support services, and healthcare improvement services.

The role of Peer Programme Co-ordinator is to develop a new peer-to-peer service to provide information and support to anyone affected by myeloma and its related conditions and develop the new volunteer-led service that will sit alongside the current services offered by the Myeloma Information Specialist team. This service will use volunteers to provide bespoke support to people affected by myeloma and its related conditions and work on a referral basis.

The post holder will work with colleagues to ensure close communication and sharing of information across the organisation and report progress regularly to their line manager.

A minimum of one year’s experience of implementing volunteer/user involvement in service delivery, experience of recruiting, training, managing and supervising or mentoring a diverse range of staff or volunteers and experience of working in services which deliver positive outcomes for patients, carers and/or families is essential for this role. You will require an understanding of health and safety principles and practice and an understanding of the challenges that may arise from delivering digital/telephone support.

You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills along with a high level of organisational and IT skills, and the ability to understand and meet training and development needs of volunteers. Previous experience working in haematology, oncology, clinical research or healthcare, together with experience in information delivery over the telephone and in person would be an advantage for this role.

This is a part-time post for 28 hours per week worked over 4 days. The post is currently home based, with hub-based office days.
