Do you believe that every child deserves the chance to flourish?

Could you bring enthusiasm and fun to a young person’s life?

Are you interested in developing your skills and experience in working therapeutically with young people?

We are looking to build our current pool of Relief Residential Workers to work in our residential service for children and young people based in Fort William. We work using a Dyadic Developmental Practice model which means that we ensure that the child/young person and their behaviour is understood and that the child or young person feels as safe as possible at home, in school and in social activities.

We are looking for individuals who will be playful, warm, accepting, curious and empathetic in their dealings with children, and to bring these qualities to help us achieve our vision, which is to:

  1. Provide the best option in Scotland for children who require to live in residential care.
  2. Provide the best life-long learning services in Scotland which support children to lead happy and successful lives.
  3. Be the best place in Scotland for staff to work and to support staff to achieve their individual and collective potential.

Our aim is to create and provide our young people with opportunities to develop and grow within a safe therapeutic environment.

By giving our young people opportunities like this we help build self-esteem and self-worth, giving children and young people the belief that they can achieve and be successful in their future.

Relief Workers play a crucial role in supporting our team. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical, personal, and emotional care to support the families in their daily living and within the local community.

Young people have told us that they like staff who:

“Will keep me safe at night”

“Are confident to have fun and be silly with me – who don’t sit back and just watch”

“Are honest and truthful”

“Like football”

“Like makeup and fashion”

“Want to spend time with me one to one”

Our residential service in Fort William is one of two houses that Aberlour runs in the Highlands. Our experienced teams of staff seek to create a comfortable home for the young people where they can grow and flourish, participating in educational and community activities to achieve their goals.

This work is offered on a casual, hourly paid basis to provide cover during staff absence and/or particularly busy periods. Availability should be specified on your application and will be discussed at interview.
