About the role

This role is key to developing a solid foundation to facilitate the growth of services delivered by volunteers through the creation of a fulfilling and positive volunteer experience.

You’ll be responsible for the budget and managing a team of 5 part-time community-based volunteer experience specialists (based across the 4 nations).

You’ll also be working with key stakeholders from across the organisation i.e. volunteers, services, people and culture, finance, IT, governance and legal, fundraising and research so those staff that work alongside volunteers as well as those volunteers that themselves lead volunteers, have access to up-to-date information and resources.

A key focus will be to encourage greater diversity within our networks, so they reflect the communities in which they serve, as well as empowering our lead volunteers through encouraging mentoring and engagement between volunteer networks.

About you

We are looking for a highly skilled administrator to provide high quality executive, administrative and corporate support to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The COO has busy and varied workload, including leading the Finance, Information Services, and Facilities functions. You will provide excellent proactive, adaptable and professional support to the COO, maximising their capacity and time to ensure that key deadlines, project deliverables and business objectives are achieved.

This role is currently a hybrid role at our Head Office in Edinburgh or our Hospice in Kinross, along with home working. There will also be occasional travel to our other CHAS sites to assist the COO. We may consider other locations for exceptional candidates.

About You

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role. You will operate flexibly and professionally in a fast-paced environment. You will use your own initiative and judgement, showing confidence and discretion. You will be good at prioritising others’ time and workload in order to manage the extensive demands associated with daily diary commitments. You will be experienced and effective in assessing priorities, undertaking research and preparatory work to facilitate meetings and appointments, and liaising with relevant team members where necessary to ensure the COO is fully prepared for meetings.

You will be a confident communicator with great attention to detail and exemplary organisational, creative problem solving and prioritisation skills. You will have demonstrable experience of supporting committees. You will be a team player with a positive, welcoming and can-do attitude. Maintaining confidentiality is a key attribute, whilst ensuring work is carried out efficiently and to a high standard. You must be able to cope with routine and challenging situations, using your initiative and working with diplomacy.

Previous experience in the charity or healthcare sectors would be an advantage, as would experience of working with volunteers.

About CHAS

In Scotland, three children a week die from a life-shortening condition. CHAS provides unwavering care for children who may die young, and their whole families. Our team of staff and volunteers work across two children’s hospices, in community settings across the country, and in hospitals alongside NHS staff. We work right across Scotland.

You will work collaboratively while managing a cohort of Community Links Practitioners and providing support to the Programme Manager to ensure that the team is properly resourced and supported to fulfil their roles and responsibilities and deliver on outcomes.

You will have:

• At least two years’ experience of working within Community Learning and Development, Social Work, health or related field.

It would be desirable for you to have experience of:

• Experience of working in primary care.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent within a relevant field, e.g. community education, public health, community nursing, mental health, with a minimum of two years post qualifying experience.
• Relevant post graduate experience or qualification in topics such as health behaviour change or motivational interviewing.

The ALLIANCE is excited to be recruiting for a new member of our Community Links Practitioner team. We are looking for a Part-Time Community Links Practitioner that will be based in GP practices in Glasgow.

You will provide a person-centred service that is responsive to the needs and interests of a GP practice population. You will support people to identify issues that affect their ability to live well. The post-holder will work collaboratively with individuals to support them through decision making processes and help them decide upon the issues that they would like to address; helping them overcome any barriers to addressing these.

Using service improvement methodology, the Community Links Practitioner will support the existing primary care team to adopt a links approach. They will support existing staff in becoming skilled in identifying local services and matching them to the needs of individual people. Typical examples include social or lunch clubs, self-help groups, befriending organisations, hobby clubs (such as gardening clubs) and employment or voluntary-work agencies.

The Community Links Practitioner will identify community resources and facilitate relationships between these resources and the practice for the benefit of the patient. They will also build relationships and processes with statutory organisations, health services and voluntary organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Money Advice Service, NHS services and charities.

The aim of the Links Practitioner Programme is to support people to live well through strengthening connections between community resources and primary care in deprived areas in Scotland.
