Role
As our Men’s Shed Community Project Worker, you will lead and collaborate on developing our Men’s Shed project in the Craigmillar community. As part of the community development team, you will work with colleagues both within and outwith Carr Gomm to meet your objectives of supporting local people to improve their health and wellbeing in a way which builds both their capacity and that of the community.
You will support people, groups and volunteers, as required, in a person-centred way and in line with Carr Gomm’s values. The values are: Choice, Control, Interdependence, Respect, Openness & Honesty and Efficiency; Joint Working and User Involvement.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Edinburgh Community Projects Manager, you will develop the project in the Craigmillar community, working with local people and groups with reference to the project plan whilst prioritising their needs:
- You will work in the community to identify groups and individuals who are interested in getting involved in the Men’s Shed programme, working with them to set up projects if there is not one local to them, or to involve them in an existing programme if appropriate;
- You will facilitate activities and events as required, or will support local people and volunteers to do this;
- You will support local groups to build their capacity to develop Men’s Shed activities, offering training and skill-sharing where appropriate;
- You will undertake monitoring and evaluation activities, as required by the Project Manager for example recording outcome feedback, writing case examples, keeping statistics;
- You will contribute, as a member of the community development team, to discussions relating to achieving project outcomes as identified through project plans;

What makes a great Community Project Worker?
You will have experience of working in communities, of engaging with local people, of planning and bringing projects to fruition. We also have an expectation of attitude - a proactive learner with a flair for engaging with, and relating to people; someone who is enthused by this project and shares our values. You will have to be creative, patient, positive and motivated with a wide range of skills to draw on. You must be a natural communicator with a gift for getting alongside vulnerable and isolated men - so you can build networks and links with local people and groups but successfully feedback information in multiple formats for managers to disseminate to funders.

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager for our Rural locality, you will be responsible for leading and managing by working closely with the Service Managers and the Local Management Team. You will ensure that the services are contractually compliant and managed within budget and organisational policies. We are blessed at Dunfermline East to be a thriving and growing congregation, with a large proportion of children and young people and skilled volunteer teams. We now have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced individual to use their gifts and skills in helping us to make a difference in the lives of the people in our parish and community.
This is a leadership role, co-ordinating our existing ministry with children and young people, developing our teams and creating opportunities for children, young people and families across our parish to be introduced to Jesus and become disciples.
This is a hands on role, working with our existing groups, and leading the development of new initiaitves within our local schools and the wider parish. An element of this work will be engaging with children and young people with Additional Support Needs and their families.
You will bring a collaborative approach with experience of leading new initiatives and working positively with volunteers which will enable you to work with us in developing our connections in the community, so that children, young people and families have the opportunity to find faith in Jesus Christ.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities
The post-holder will:-
Establish and maintain contact with people affected by homelessness and/or multiple complex needs who use the service. This will necessitate working effectively with people who experience mental and physical ill health, substance dependence, offending, rooflessness and other support needs as appropriate.
Work as part of a team to help deliver an immediate response to individuals seeking assistance with homelessness, benefits, mental health and addiction support and safeguarding concerns, and help alleviate the crisis people are experiencing.
Carry out dynamic and comprehensive assessments of needs with individual clients liaising with, representing and referring to other providers such as homeless casework teams, NHS practitioners, housing, statutory and voluntary services.
Assist with benefits applications and representation at appeals, ensuring clients have access to full benefit entitlement.
Enter into supportive and empowering relationships with clients with the aim of assisting them to tackle the often complex issues in their lives and access the support and services they need to help them at that moment in time and longer term.
Deliver practical support to users of the service (e.g. assisting people with emergency food parcels etc. where required.)
Perform general contact and assessment duties within the service in order to supervise the operation of the service identify needs and communicate with the wider team.
Provide a welcome and assessment of clients coming into the service ensuring health and safety is a priority.
Deliver outreach support to help clients access community-based resources in their own locality.
Attend relevant forums and events and develop sound relationships with other key providers as required.
Monitor and record in a consistent and professional fashion all work carried out on the client’s behalf.
Participate in the ongoing review of service delivery in order to optimize the service's use of resources in order to best meet individuals’ needs.
Carry out any other duties as required by the management of The Marie Trust.
Hours of work: Monday – Thursday (9 am – 5pm, Monday to Thursday, 9.00am to 4.30 pm Friday’s)
