Role

Poverty and inequality are the greatest challenges Scotland faces. The Poverty Alliance is working hard to have policies introduced that can reduce, and ultimately solve, poverty. An opportunity has arisen to join our team and help us achieve our vision of a Scotland without poverty.

We are looking for a Community Participation Officer who can help us with the continued development of the End Poverty Edinburgh group.

The post holder will provide support to the members of End Poverty Edinburgh. This will include the practical support to ensure that the group meets regularly and that all members are able to actively contribute to the development of the group. You will also support members to co-produce individual and group ‘learning plans’ to help build capacity to engage with decision makers in the city.

We are looking for an individual with experience of working alongside grassroots community organisations, of providing support to individuals and groups and with a background in creative facilitation and groupwork techniques. For this post we are looking for an individual who not only has the right skills and experience in relation to community development and community engagement activity, but also has direct experience of poverty. A passionate advocate for social change, you will also have a strong knowledge of poverty issues in Edinburgh and civil society organisations in the city.

In delivering this work, the Community Participation Officer will work alongside the wider staff team in the Poverty Alliance, in particular our research, communities and policy teams. This post is initially funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
