Coventry’s City of Culture programme will start in May 2021 and run for 12 months, allowing us to keep our promise to the city and region - to deliver an extraordinary year and to tell the story of the city that moves.


The Trust is looking to appoint a Disability Inclusion Manager managed by the Head of Team Development to ensure that all aspects of the Trust’s activities are fully accessible to D/deaf, disabled* and/or neurodivergent employees, artists, audience members, stakeholders, participants, or volunteers.

*We are defining disability based on the Social Model approach, which, by focusing on the disabling barriers imposed by society, embraces all physical, sensory, and invisible impairments, learning disability, mental health, neurodivergent and fatigue conditions.


  • To provide knowledge, expertise, and support to our team in developing their disability confident practices and helping to review and develop inclusive systems and processes
  • To work with the Head of Team Development and key colleagues and stakeholders to plan, deliver and review Disability Inclusion focussed action plans
  • To support the work of HR & Team Development to deliver disability inclusion focussed training and development activity and events
  • To lead the development of the city-wide Access & Attitudes Forum, held bi-monthly
  • To work with marketing, communications, delegates, ticketing, and visitor experience colleagues to ensure that the visitor invite, welcome and offer is accessible and inclusive
  • To collaborate with producers and production managers to ensure that all performances and events are accessible and inclusive
  • To support the Trust’s ambitions to have a leading role in promoting best practice in access and inclusion
  • To oversee the booking of provision for accessible performances
  • To report key initiatives and activities to stakeholders and to the monitoring and evaluation team
  • To be an advocate for our disability inclusion work, internally and externally, including public speaking
  • To actively engage with the organisation’s vision and mission and strategies regarding artistic ambition, equal opportunities, diversity and accessibility, participation and engagement, environment and sustainability and evaluation and monitoring
  • To be aware of, and undertake to comply with and to help develop, the Trust’s policies and procedures including, but not limited to, GDPR, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Diversity and Equality and Inclusion Policies


  • Experience of leading disability inclusion activity from planning and delivery to review and within a creative and cultural context
  • Experience of ensuring that accessibility requirements are met for projects, programmes, events, and performances within a creative and cultural context
  • Experience of delivering training and development activity for teams and external stakeholders
  • Experience of providing advice, guidance, and support to help promote best practice
  • Experience of reporting to colleagues, Boards, and funders
  • Working knowledge of current access best practice
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to balance and prioritise a diverse workload
  • A can-do attitude to working in busy team structure, with experience of working with and influencing multiple partners with competing demands
  • Competent across IT and software, including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and willingness to learn other software programmes
  • An effective communicator, able to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, agencies, and partners
  • Attributes of diplomacy, confidentiality, trust and respect for colleagues and partners
  • To be based in, or able to move within commuting distance of Coventry

This is a fixed term post until June 2022

  • The post is working 39 hours (excluding 30 minute/1-hour lunch) per week Monday – Friday at hours to be agreed between 9am and 6pm with frequent evening work to see shows and events
  • Flexible working may be agreed, including the potential for part-time working, a job share or any other necessary adjustments including ensuring support needs and access requirements are met
  • The salary is paid monthly in arrears
  • If asked to work additional hours at the weekend, Time Off in Lieu will be given if approved in advance with the Line Manager
  • Pension auto-enrolment is applicable and employer contributions are currently 3%. The Trust’s appointed pension provider is NEST. Further details are available
  • Holiday 33 days per annum including public holidays. Holiday must be taken at a time to suit all colleagues
  • Main place of work is the Trust’s Office with frequent attendance at meetings offsite. However, given current government guidelines all Trust employees are currently homeworking. The successful candidate will be welcomed into the Trust and supported through a remote onboarding process
  • There is a probation period of three months during which time the notice period is one week; on confirmation of appointment the notice period is one month
  • On appointment the successful candidate must be able to provide the correct documents as proof of their right to work in the UK for duration of the contract
  • The candidate’s contract of employment with the Trust does not come into force until the first day of work
