Role
To assist people who use the service to establish and maintain a meaningful and fulfilling life in the community. Playing a central role in the planning and provision of quality, recovery focused support.
Responsibilities
- Establish an effective relationship with people who use the service in accordance with Penumbra’s policies and procedures.
- Develop outcome-based personal recovery plans for each service user, which promotes self –management and social inclusion.
- Co-ordinate delivery of recovery focused support.
- Deliver community-based well-being workshops that promote positive mental health.
- Provide practical support and supervision to Recovery Workers and/or Peer Workers as required.
- Develop effective relationships with other groups and agencies in your area and take opportunities to promote mental health awareness in the wider community.
- Be responsible for maintaining the relevant systems of documentation.
- Provide accurate information and reports as required.
- Provide formal input to Care Management reviews as required.
- Be flexible and responsive to meet the changing needs of the service users and the organisation, within the agreed criteria.
- Work effectively with other members of the team, and liaise effectively with families, agencies, colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Participate in training activities and meetings as required.
- Uphold Penumbra’s Code of Practice.
This Job Description is not exhaustive; the post-holder may be required to perform other duties, deemed appropriate to this grade, as and when required.
During the Covid-Pandemic this post is working from home. Staff will return to community support based on government guidance.

Connecting Families Development Officer

This post will support the delivery of Scottish Families’ strategic outcome that ‘Families are a movement for change’, including ongoing delivery of our Connecting Families programme through engagement, design, delivery and evaluation. The post will help increase capacity and create more opportunities for families to influence sustainable change in relation to substance use and recovery. The Connecting Families programme is dynamic and is co-produced with family members, however the role will include initiatives such as our Family Recovery College, tackling stigma, promoting family rights, engaging with peer-led family support groups and networks, and running family and community events.
The post-holder will be responsible for developing and delivering our national Connecting Families programme, where families drive the development of a families’ recovery movement, including co-producing projects, events and initiatives. This includes supporting the delivery of learning programmes to promote family recovery; engaging and supporting families; supporting families’ voices to be directly heard through a range of platforms; facilitating family engagement and influence in policy, research and service development; and working closely with other social movements, including recovery movements.
The post will be based at Edward House, Glasgow (Scottish Families’ national office) with extensive travel around Scotland. (Note that currently all staff are home working due to the COVID outbreak and there is currently no confirmed date for the re-opening of the national office, based on the Scottish Government guidance). The post-holder will be expected to work some evenings and occasional weekends. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential.
We are seeking applicants who have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional qualification, as well as experience of building and maintaining relationships with individuals and groups; engaging with unheard or under-represented groups; providing learning and development opportunities; and collaborative working. Applicants should have knowledge of issues for families affected by alcohol and drugs; principles of co-production; values underpinning community learning and development; awareness of recovery movements; and understanding of family rights in the context of human rights. We are seeking an applicant who can encourage and promote the development of family recovery actions to bring about change.

This post will support effective delivery of Scottish Families’ Fundraising Strategy. The role is primarily focused on income generation through community fundraising activity and events in Scotland, as well as providing local support to grow fundraising activity.
This role will focus on supporting the Scottish Families’ Fundraising Strategy, recruiting participants for events, developing and maintaining relationships with supporters and funders, answering all fundraising-related queries and maximising community fundraising opportunities for the organisation.
The post-holder will be responsible for achieving agreed annual income targets; recruiting, supporting and inspiring fundraising supporters; recruiting, supporting and developing volunteers to support fundraising; identifying opportunities for events and supporting planned events; liaising with community venues regarding collections throughout the year.

At U-evolve we support young people aged 11-18 in North Edinburgh to build confidence, resilience and self belief. We believe all young people deserve happy and fulfilling futures, no matter where they are starting from.
We provide 1:1 therapeutic coaching with young people, supporting them to reach their goals and work through the trauma they've experienced. We also run topic- based workshops and group work, such as mental health awareness, transition workshops and body image for young people.
We also work with the adults in young people’s networks, ensuring that they can effectively and compassionately support young people through the challenges they may be facing. We want to build resilience and emotional literacy to create a culture that fosters good mental health and wellbeing for all. We work in partnerships with schools and youth groups. We provide training, workshops and opportunities for peer support to parents, carers and frontline professionals.
This support has never been more needed, and we have seen a significant demand in our services as a result of the emotional pressures of Covid-19.
We are in a grassroots charity in a period of growth and diversification and thanks to support from the Adapt and Thrive fund, are now recruiting an Operations Coordinator to support the development of our next phase. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will support the day to day running of the charity, as well as leading our fundraising programme. This includes income generation from grants, trusts and foundations, and community and developing our donor programme.
