Role
Children 1st are looking for Sessional Youth Workers and Sessional Peer Support Workers!
We have exciting opportunities available within our Midlothian service, supporting children, parents and their families in a predominantly group-based environment. You will complement our team of Peer Support Workers, Project Workers and Administrator to provide activities and some 1:1 support for children and their parents in various settings to promote opportunities for fun, increased confidence, positive mental health and stronger family relationships.

Base
You will have a nominal base in our Hub in Dalkeith; however the support will be delivered at venues across Midlothian, including outdoors.
Hours
The number of sessional hours offered will be dependent on current and future COVID-19 restrictions and as such will be variable based on these. As restrictions ease, we anticipate projects recommencing in the evenings and weekends predominantly, though there may be some opportunities for daytime support also. This will also depend on the partnership projects recommencing which were operational pre-COVID.

Assistant Service Manager (Options Lothian)

At Options Lothian we offer a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. During that break, children enjoy a range of fun activities and experiences with our staff who specialise in taking care of children with disabilities. Our service is very much a ‘home from home’ for the children who stay with us there. Our service is open from Fridays to Sundays every week.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about ensuring our young people live their best lives. Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role. We are looking for someone who will contribute to the leadership, management and development of the service for children, young people and their families in line with agreed objectives and assist with service review and evaluation.
You will have relevant experience of working with children and young people with a disability and/or autism in a community or residential setting and understand the impact of disability on inclusion. You are required to meet the qualifications requirement for this post which is at SCQF Level 7 (e.g. HNC, SVQ Level 3) and a practice qualification in a management category or SVQ Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 9. This post requires you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as both a Residential Child Care Worker with Supervisory Responsibilities and a Supervisor in a Housing Support Service.
There is an expectation that you will mainly be working these hours Friday-Sunday offering direct support to the young people as part of our residential rota, this will include evenings, weekends, nights and public holidays. There is also the requirement to undertake the occasional sleep over or night awake shift.

Activity Support Workers (Aberlour Options Borders)

Our service works with children and young people affected by their learning disabilities. Our Holiday Activity Club offers children the opportunity to take part in fun activities whilst enabling them to grow and learn. Summer Holiday Activity Clubs take place in Hawick, Peebles, Galashiels and Kelso.
You will be passionate about meeting the needs of children and young people and will strive to ensure that a programme of fun-filled activities and outings is available. You will understand the need for, and your responsibility to contribute to, a safe and secure environment.
You will have enthusiasm and drive, but also be patient and have a good sense of humour. This type of work can be challenging and so ideally you will have some previous experience of working with children and/or a similar client group.
The work can be physically demanding and includes moving and handling and providing personal care.
To allow us to provide a consistent, quality service it is desirable that applicants will commit to working between 10 and 35 hours per week throughout the 7 weeks of school summer holidays. Payment is made for the accrual of annual leave and will be explained further in the job pack. There is also the opportunity to join our relief pool for future work.
Prior to commencing, it is mandatory to attend training days where you will meet the rest of the team and learn about the service. Dates to be confirmed.
