Harmeny Education Trust is a sector-leading children’s charity providing therapeutic care and education for children with complex additional support needs. We currently work with children of primary up to early secondary stage, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis.
Harmeny is situated in a beautiful 35-acre woodland estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats, children’s play areas and a mountain bike track. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills; we are easily accessible by bus and there is ample parking.
We are seeking three new Trustees to join our Board and oversee the governance of our organisation, preferably with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
· Marketing and/or communications
If you think that you have knowledge and experience in another area that may be of benefit to our organisation, we would like to hear from you using the contact details below.
Trustees are expected to prepare for and attend around six meetings per year (currently held remotely), and be involved on ad hoc basis otherwise, for example to join a sub-committee or working group, take part in a recruitment panel, attend Harmeny events or support Harmeny’s work externally.
Harmeny is committed to equality of opportunity and the promotion of diversity, including in relation to its Board. While we welcome applications from all parts of society, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from black and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, younger candidates and those who are care experienced (such as someone who has been in care or the parent or carer of such a person).
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of Trustees in a friendly organisation making a difference to the lives of vulnerable children in Scotland. Support and mentoring can be provided to those who are interested but may be early in their careers and/or lacking experience in acting as a board member.
We encourage anyone, and particularly those from the groups mentioned in bold above, to contact us to discuss whether they might be suitable.
A fuller job description and person specification can be found using the link below. Harmeny is a values-led organisation and a good fit with our ethos is as important to us as having relevant experience.
There is no remuneration attached to the role but out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
