Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national membership and advocacy organisation for Care Experienced people. Our strategic vision is a lifetime of equality, respect and love for Care Experienced people in Scotland.

You will be working with partners to improve the experiences, support and opportunities for Care Experienced and other young people within their school communities. In particular, your work will ensure that the voices, experiences and needs of Care Experienced young people are heard and understood. You will provide and support:

- Independent and individual advocacy support for young people including in relation to their support within the Community of School;

- Voice-led awareness-raising sessions within school communities and with educational professionals, reaching out to Care Experienced and other children/young people, their peers and the professionals and carers who are around them;

- Enhanced links between the growing range of opportunities for Care Experienced young people and others across Highland, and the Community of School;

- Improved opportunity, voice, aspiration and attainment for Highland’s Care Experienced young people and others with needs for significant support.

You will help ensure that Care Experienced voices are heard by care corporate parents and communities, creating positive change.

You will place young people at the heart of everything you do. You will need to utilise advocacy and youth work/community development skills. You will be working closely with organisational partners, different services within the Local Authority and beyond, creating new opportunities and developing existing ones.

You will be working within Highland at an exciting time, when the voices of those with experience of care are growing in power, individually and collectively - bringing with them insight, challenge, hope and change. You will be part of a dynamic North team in Who Cares? Scotland, and will work closely with key partners across Highlands’s CHAMPS corporate parenting network.

The right candidate will have a relevant qualification, to a minimum HNC/SVQ 3 (SCQF level 7) in a discipline related to working with children and young people, or equivalent work experience. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. You will be able to form positive working relationships with children and young people, and maintain links with professional partners. You will also have experience of delivering training or engaging a range of audiences, and of working collaboratively. You will be committed to children’s rights, inclusive working, equal opportunities, and believe that young people can make transformative change in their lives if given the opportunity. A full driving licence and use of a car is also required, due to the Highland-wide remit of the post.
