The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is an independent membership organisation concerned principally with the education, training and assessment of Surgeons, Dental Surgeons and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the surgical care of patients. Founded in 1505, the College currently has a total membership approaching 30,000 in approximately 100 countries throughout the world.

About the Role

The Faculty Development Manager will be responsible for managing, coordinating and providing on-going support to several College faculties. Leading a small, collaborative team, the post holder will manage and coordinate the administration of these faculties to deliver operational excellence across all activities, help formulate and deliver strategy and policy objectives and oversee compliance with governance requirements.

The post holder will be expected to liaise and work closely with other College departments, senior staff, elected office bearers and with a variety of external stakeholders, as required. At all times, the Manager’s focus will be on ensuring the success of the College’s faculties and supporting the formulation, monitoring and delivery of their strategic objectives.

There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

The successful appointee will be working remotely, from home, until at least February 2021.

Experience/Qualifications/Key Skills

We are seeking candidates who are able to demonstrate previous success in managing and developing high-performing staff teams as well as experience of effectively managing projects or diverse portfolios of activity. To be successful in this role, you will need to bring to bear good judgement, critical thinking and strategic awareness. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills will be necessary to work successfully with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels. You should have a flexible and adaptable approach, strong organisational skills and the ability to work well under the reasonable pressures of time and resource constraints.

A key part of the role will involve working with a significant number of standing committees, boards and working groups across the different faculties and ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the secretariat support function provided to them. Therefore, experience in this area is essential.
