The UK Sight Loss Advice Service provides holistic advice to people with sight loss, their friends, family and carers throughout the UK; operating under the Advice Quality Standard (AQS).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced adviser to join our telephone advice service offering generalist and welfare benefits advice to Blind and Partially Sighted people across the UK.

Based at our Edinburgh Office (Hillside Crescent), blended with home working, you’ll be part of a large team working in RNIB and partner sites across the UK. As a Sight Loss Adviser you will handle incoming advice enquiries via telephone and/or online channels, make outgoing calls to customers who have been referred to us via partners and other RNIB services; alongside managing a complex caseload.

It’s a challenging and highly rewarding role that will see you providing quality advice to people with sight loss on issues that affect all aspects of their lives: working with both internal and external partners to achieve successful outcomes. The role is exciting and demanding so no two days are ever the same.

Sight Loss Advisers work a 36 hour week (excluding lunch and breaks) between 8am and 8pm on a shift basis over five days, with occasional Saturday shifts from 9am until 1pm on a rota basis.

To be considered for this role you must have significant experience of delivering advice on welfare benefits, including carrying out benefits calculations using online tools. Knowledge of the issues affecting people with sight loss and experience of providing advice and information to the general public on the majority of topics outlined in the job description and person specification is desirable, though comprehensive training will be provided. As such you’re likely to come from an advice role within the sector or have experience of providing advice in line with quality standards.

In exchange we offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:

• 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), which increase with service

• Excellent pension schemes
