Role

The Patrons of Cowane’s Hospital Trust is a Charitable Trust established in 1637 and is one of the oldest charities in existence in Scotland. The Trust was originally established to provide assistance for ‘decayed guild brethren’ through the building of Cowane’s Hospital as an Almshouse. The current purpose of the Trust is, broadly, to provide assistance in the form of housing for vulnerable people within Stirling. The Trust owns farms, residential property and investments. It also owns Cowane’s Hospital (a 17th century A listed building) which is currently undergoing refurbishment.

Cowane’s are looking for a Finance Officer to join their small, professional team. You will be responsible for the provision of a professional financial management service, to include the preparation of management accounts, VAT returns and annual financial statements. You will ensure that all financial matters are subject to best practice and comply with accounting standards and financial regulations. Experience of Partial Exemption VAT would be desirable.

You will ensure that effective financial control and information systems are in place and operate efficiently with regard to payroll, supplier payments, invoicing, insurance, procurement, budgets and other financial processes essential to the effective operation of the Trust. You will attend Trust meetings and will have excellent communication skills, especially when explaining complex financial information to non-financial colleagues.

A relevant accounting qualification is required, with a minimum of HNC level acceptable. Part qualified and membership of an accounting body is desirable. References will be required upon offer of employment.
