Role

Giving children and young people the foundations they need to thrive.

The successful applicant will operate across West Scotland College campus sites in Paisley, Clydebank, Greenock and Waterfront, providing mentoring support to vulnerable and/or care experienced students. You will mentor and facilitate a range of support to young people both within the college and in the community to maximise retention and attainment levels. This may include support with mental health, finances including bursaries and grants, budgeting, advocacy, housing and support to attend appointments (i.e. multi-disciplinary reviews). Some engagement may be delivered remotely during the current COVID situation.

You will make a difference by:

  • Applying Action for Children's and professional practice standards and ensuring their implementation as necessary and being proactive in their implementation.
  • Providing a responsive, high quality and customer focused service to young people attending college based on an assessment of need that is regularly and professionally reviewed and the development of aspirational action plans which are outcomes driven.
  • Managing and co-ordinate a caseload of young people, providing a range of targeted interventions to enable them to sustain their college placement or to assist their entry to the labour market through group, coordinated or individual support.

You will need:

  • An SVQ 3 in Social Care, Guidance or equivalent.
  • An assessors qualification.
  • Experience of working in group settings with young people facing multiple barriers.
  • Previous experience of working within recruitment or employment sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of young people facing unemployment.
  • To have a car to use for business purposes.
