Role

Victim Support Scotland is the country’s leading charity providing emotional and practical support to people affected by all types of crime. VSS’s current strategy Victims and Witnesses First: VSS Strategic Plan 2018-2021, outlines its vision to ensure that all victims of crime get the help and support they need, when they need it. This strategy also articulates the organisation’s ambition to be an inclusive and modern organisation, reaching victims in ways that suit their needs. The organisation has made a great deal of progress with this over the previous two and a half years, however there is much still to be done and VSS welcomes applications from experienced individuals who would like to join our Board of Trustees.

Ideally, we would prefer applications from those who already have some experience of serving on a Board, but if you don’t, we would still like to hear from you if you have the desire and enthusiasm to take on a new challenge.

In order to be considered, you must have experience of working at board level or at a senior management level, as well as specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas; governance, HR, IT, income generation / fund raising, marketing & PR, strategic planning and performance / quality management. We would also welcome application from people with lived experience who have been affected by crime.

The roles are rewarding and you would play an important part in developing our strategy and vision, to help victims and witnesses take control and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of crime.

An understanding of the principles which govern Scottish charities or the not-for-profit sector would be useful but is not essential.

Board roles are unremunerated, although reasonable expenses will be paid. The average time commitment is around 1-2 days a month.

This position is subject to a Basic Disclosure check.
