Edinburgh Community Food (ECF), established in 1996, is a centre of excellence for Food and Health work in the Scottish Capital. We deliver a range of services and activities, promoting healthy eating and tackling health inequalities across the city. We aim to ensure that, regardless of their background, everyone has access to - and has the knowledge to be able to prepare and cook - nutritious food in a dignified manner. Furthermore, we operate a social enterprise selling fresh fruit, vegetables, our in-house ‘Take & Make’ meals-in-a-bag, and a range of other seasonal produce. These are in the form of fruit and vegetable boxes delivered to people’s homes, fruit boxes to commercial premises, and sales from stalls based in Edinburgh’s two major NHS acute hospitals. As well as food sourcing and delivery, through education ECF helps people develop their potential, both in terms of employable skills (such as REHIS courses) and basic abilities to make meals for themselves and their families through the life cycle (weaning, fussy eaters, Discover! programme, food fortification, etc.).
ECF is composed of a warehouse/delivery team and a community development team. This post is established under the community development branch of the organisation to develop and deliver educational programmes about food and lifestyle to a variety of communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, ECF has rapidly switched focus to support Edinburgh residents who are struggling to get food and other vital supplies for a variety of reasons. This opportunity has refreshed our approach to ‘think outside the box’, recruiting new suppliers, further increasing our online presence, and cementing our reputation within the food community.Edi
