About Us

Merry-go-round Glasgow is a charity in the Southside. We support local families with high quality, low cost children’s goods and through inclusive events and workshops. We have a boutique style charity shop in Strathbungo selling everything baby, run an events programme, and also work with over 120 agencies across the city to provide free packs of goods to families in need. We have a staff team of 13 and are an inclusive and supportive employer.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person for the role of volunteer coordinator. The Volunteer Co-ordinator post is a core position that is responsible for recruiting volunteers on an on-going basis, developing and growing the team and ensuring they are given access to skills, mentoring and training. The role is also responsible for reviewing existing, and developing new policies and procedures as appropriate and necessary.

This role is crucial in helping Merry-go-round reach its full potential. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation and pivotal in supporting all of our services and activities.

The post holder will be super organised, self-motivated, able to drive their own workload, able to work independently and with enthusiasm to succeed. You will have good interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communications with a wide range of audiences.

The main duties are:

  • Work with the staff and board to identify key volunteer opportunities within the organisation and document volunteer role descriptions.
  • Maintain all volunteer documents and support packs on an ongoing basis and develop any additional policies and procedures as required.
  • Identify agencies and businesses that we can work with to recruit volunteers, with special reference to target disadvantaged groups.
  • Maintain and build on existing relationships with partners to recruit volunteers.
  • Manage and develop the volunteer training and development programme.
  • Support and train existing staff to support and manage volunteers
  • Actively support volunteers and ensure they have opportunities for feedback, growth and development
