Role:

The Senior Counsellor/Practice Supervisor will provide a counselling, advice and information service for individuals aged 16 and over with problematic alcohol use or affected by other people’s problematic alcohol use. Also manage and coordinate a high-quality Practice Supervision service within GCA, ensuring all volunteers and students receive appropriate practice supervision, support and guidance. The service will be provided from North Claremont Street Office and community settings.

Organisation Profile:

Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) was founded in 1965 and is the oldest established Council on Alcohol in Scotland. GCA is a voluntary organisation working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol misuse through the provision of a range of high quality advice, information, counselling, support, prevention and education and training services.

GCA has been working with individuals, families and communities across Glasgow and beyond since 1965, tackling the causes and effects of alcohol misuse. We believe that health and wellbeing are vital to individuals, family relationships and communities, and recognise that alcohol is an issue that can affect everyone, regardless of their background.

Counselling Supervisor

GCA are looking to attract an experienced Counselling Supervisors who are BACP/COSCA or BABCP registered. The individuals would need to demonstrate at least two years of experience as a Practice Supervisor.

GCA would guarantee flexible hours per month at a rate of £35 per hour. GCA would provide the rooms for supervision and the Supervisors will have access the GCA training Calendar which counts towards CPD.

GCA is one of the founding COSCA members and adheres to the COSCA ethical framework for good practice in counselling, psychotherapy and counselling skills. We also ensure that all practitioners employed by GCA are members of COSCA and suitably qualified.

You will be responsible for providing clinical supervision to GCA practitioners, ensuring safe and ethical practice and support clinical performance and development of counsellor’s practice. This enables the charity to be effective and efficient in delivering GCA’s core services.

Reporting To: Client Services Manager

The individuals interested in working with GCA must be registered as an accredited Counsellor/supervisor with COSCA/BACP/BABCP/UKCP and hold a Post Graduate Diploma/MA in counselling/Psychotherapy, as well as a professional qualification in clinical supervision. The individuals should have a minimum of two years’ post registration clinical experience in counselling supervision.

Additionally the individual will be required to hold a PVG registration and have personal liability insurance.

The In Work Support Advisor will provide a personalised support service assisting participants who have been affected by poor mental health or have experience of homelessness or the criminal justice service as well as those in recovery to gain new employment opportunities or sustain in existing work.

This will include providing work place support to participants as well as providing support and advice to the participant’s employer.

We’re looking for people with a history of drug or alcohol problems to take part in a supported Employment programme that will help you take the first steps towards in securing a paid job within the social care field and the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Our life-changing Addiction Worker Training Project will support, train, and prepare you to gain a qualification in Social Services and Health Care – whilst paying you for taking part.

As a Trainee Addiction Worker on the programme, you will learn about the addiction field and how to support people who are currently experiencing issues with their substance use. You will then be able to take this knowledge and put this into practice during a placement within Social Care services.

Alongside learning, you will also meet a tight-knit group of peers and future friends who will be on the programme with you, sharing every step together.

We offer £8.91 per hour before deductions with a fixed term contract of 30 hours per week for 39 weeks. Trainees will undertake work placements in social care agencies and will study towards an SVQ 2 in Social Services and Health Care. At SDF, we believe your experience of drug or alcohol problems is a strength, as it can help you understand some of the issues that someone who is accessing services may face.

Don’t know how to use a computer? – No problem. We will help you learn how to use a computer and provide you with a laptop so you can get the most out of the programme.
