Role

Please note;In order to ensure the organisation can offer both male and female counsellors to clients, there is a genuine occupational requirement to ensure that we recruit a male alcohol counsellor and therefore this post is only open to men (exempt under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010).

Role:

The Alcohol Counsellor will provide an alcohol counselling, advice and information service for individuals aged 16 and over with problematic alcohol use or affected by other people’s problematic alcohol use. The service will be provided from North Claremont Street Office and community settings.

The Counsellor’s main responsibility will be to respond quickly to referrals, organise and deliver advice, information and counselling to individuals who wish to reduce or abstain from alcohol use. The successful candidate will have the qualities and skills to listen and respond sensitively and creatively to the needs of service users, promoting positive engagement in the service.

There may be an opportunity to provide practice supervision to volunteer counsellors.

Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) was founded in 1965 and is the oldest established Council on Alcohol in Scotland. GCA is a voluntary organisation working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol misuse through the provision of a range of high quality advice, information, counselling, support, prevention and education and training services.
