Beith Trust is delighted to announce that we are recruiting for an exciting new project. This new role will be responsible for facilitating a successful delivery of an innovative youth leadership, training and coaching project centred around music.

The post holder will coordinate a team of Modern Apprentices who will lead the project, which will be designed, managed and facilitated by young people. The post holder will facilitate the delivery of a training and coaching programme within the project which will equip young people working and volunteering with experiences, skills, attitudes and work related qualifications which enable them to source, secure and sustain decent employment.

Project Brief

Beith Trust has a long standing connection with a number of young people who have had considerable success with their musical interest, nurtured within Beith Trust projects. Many are now skilled and experienced performers. These young people have shaped the project design and are keen to assist Beith Trust to facilitate this project, share their experience and skills and develop the assets and resources of the Garnock Valley to create new conditions that equip and support young people to realise and achieve their potential and showcase their talents,

The project will equip local young people with the resources, infrastructure and permission to conceptualise, design and deliver their own music project on their own terms. This will be facilitated within an innovative environment and accountable structures which enables young people to lead, manage and deliver project activities.

Opportunities for involvement will be created at a variety of levels, as novices, participants, learners, teachers and architects of the initiative. We will;

Improve mental and emotional wellbeing -

• Music is of great importance to most young people with the vast majority citing it as ‘essential’ for their happiness and wellbeing. The creative process of making music in groups creates opportunities to meet and connect with new people, combating loneliness, anxiety and creating a sense of belonging
• Opportunities to achieve - The process of participating, leaning, managing and promoting events and gigs, designing and delivering activities, songwriting and performing, will create new possibilities for non academic accreditation and achievement moreover this activity will not only showcase success, it will also shine a light on what it takes to be successful.

Better Connections with the Community

• Music by its very nature has a unique quality to engage individuals across social class, age, race, gender and ability. This project will use this quality as a foundation to reach and connect the wider community Access to new skills and training opportunities which will help them to get a new job or start a business.
• Leaderships Skills and Experience - young people will be supported and encouraged to undertake leadership roles within the project, these opportunities will equip them with a real life leadership experience, Beith Trust staff will mentor and guide this process and provide appropriate training and learning opportunities to support the process
• Formal Training and Qualifications - Beith Trust offer a range of accreditation and qualifications at a variety of levels from age 10 upwards, young people will be supported and encouraged to accredit their learning within the project where appropriate

Could you be our Scouting Support Officer?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced person to support our adult volunteers – 2-year Fixed Term Appointment

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to support leaders in the South East Scotland Region. This person will assist in promoting the recruitment and retention of new leaders and developing Scouting programmes and activities at the grass roots. The role requires you to have experience of Scouting or a similar uniformed organisation. You will work closely with existing Scout leaders and structures and provide sustainable support for them. Home based, you will be a self-starter and an excellent communicator. You will be responsible to the Regional Commissioner.

We have a thriving membership of adults and young people in our Region – over 2,300 adults and 7,200 young people. The young people are members of the Explorer, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers sections. Our leaders and the Regional Leadership Team are all volunteers and work incredibly hard to support the membership.

Why we are recruiting a Scouting Support Officer: We wish to support leaders and assist them in maintaining and developing Scouting in the Region. This person will assist us to recruit and support more adult leaders and to grow Scouting in areas where we are not currently located. We have made significant progress with a re-invigorated Regional Leadership Team and there is a great deal more that we want to accomplish, particularly to ensure that young people can have more opportunities for adventurous activities, since we know that this is the biggest attraction for young people.

Project Coordinator North West Glasgow (1 post)

The Pathfinder project is an Award Winning Scottish Youth Employability Partnership programme delivered between DRC Youth Project and WorkingRite

This exciting new post will support young residents aged 16 -24 from North West Glasgow within the project boundaries. Using WorkingRite’s relational work-based mentoring model, you will prepare young people for work placements with local businesses and support them in their placements while they learn new skills and gain confidence. It’s a simple model that works – 80% of our young people who complete the WorkingRite programme progress to full time jobs or apprenticeships

Project Coordinator South Glasgow (1 post)

This project is a partnership project between New Gorbals Housing Association, Glenoaks Housing Association, Elderpark Housing Association and WorkingRite, an award winning Scottish youth employability charity.

This exciting new post will support young tenants and young residents from South Glasgow within the project boundaries. Using WorkingRite’s work-based mentoring method, you will prepare young people for work placements with local businesses and support them in their placements while they learn new skills and gain confidence. It’s a simple model that works – 80% of young people who complete the WorkingRite programme progress to full time jobs or apprenticeships.

For all of the positions available we require a Project Co-ordinator who can:

• Self-start and work on own initiative

• Work as part of a high functioning team

• Engage and motivate young people

• Build strong relationships with businesses

• Work to targets

• Offer new and creative ideas

• Deliver accredited and certificated learning opportunities

You will be confident, have excellent communication skills and be well organised with experience in working on employability programmes. Above all, you must be enthusiastic and want to support young people who have support needs.
