The purpose of Space Training Academy is to enable and support parents, adults and young people over 16, including
people with learning disabilities and mental health challenges, to move into, or closer towards, paid
employment.
As a member of Space Training Academy team you will be reliable, enthusiastic, capable of positive interaction and
remain consistent with our company mission and values of helping people reach their full potential and enabling
their lives to flourish.
You will have excellent communication skills, a friendly and engaging personality and be comfortable working with
vulnerable people in our local community, members of the public, staff and stakeholders.
You will be a skilled support advisor with a qualification in working with communities or a related field, and a
minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
The Role
The Senior Support Advisor will support STA trainees through their employability journey with us, providing an
end-to-end support service in a person or family centred way.
You will demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience of supporting or enabling people to progress through their
lives and careers with a view to earning more, finding better or more suited positions, or supporting those who
are unemployed to find paid work. Working closely with our Senior Training & Employability Worker, you will
support our trainees to find out about and access appropriate training and opportunities (either in the STA or
through external providers), to help them develop the right level of skills and confidence to find sustainable
work that is in line with their life direction and personal circumstances.
We know that people need to build solid foundations in order to begin their employability journey, which is why our
service also involves identifying and addressing barriers, looking at strengths and passions, and putting in
place appropriate practical & emotional support if needed including income maximisation, welfare rights,
childcare, and health-related support.
Key to this role is the ability to meet funder targets as laid out in funding agreements, plus the ability to treat
people with empathy, fairness, dignity and respect, and to work alongside them as they’re building the
self-esteem and resilience. You’ll work with people to assess their training needs and help them understand what
steps they may need to take in order to secure work.
