Co-Chair

  • Management Board
  • Unpaid
  • Dundee
  • Closing 30th October 2020

  • Advertised from 12th October 2020

Role

Abertay Students Association is an ever evolving board and as such is continually young in its experience. We are made up of students and external trustees, and two sabbatical officers. The students can serve a maximum of two years and our external trustees a maximum of two, three year terms. Our elected officers serve a maximum of two years also. This can create a dynamic, challenging and exciting board.

We are looking for an experienced Co-Chair, someone who can guide and support our elected President, your Co-Chair, in meetings. Someone who understands governance, legal obligations and has understanding of small charities in Scotland.

We are looking for commitment from our trustees to give time to our meetings, which are held quarterly, as well as express due care and diligence in the organisation. Our student and sabbatical trustees, at times, may need support via electronic communications on top of the committed meeting times, so you may be required to provide guidance.

Delegation of the day to day running of the charity sits with the CEO, who works with her small but impactful team. They are working on outcomes and an operational plan.

A strategic plan was in part created, but never completed. This will be picked up again once the full board is in place. It will be a strategic plan post covid 2021-2024.

Time commitment is two hours per meeting with reading of the papers prior, and any other remote support and guidance as mentioned above.

Sessions with the CEO and/or with other experienced trustees are available to ask any questions.

Full training will be given and a trustee training day will be arranged once all trustees are recruited.

There is no remuneration: however all necessary travel and out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed. Previous board-level experience would be beneficial.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds – people of all genders, ages, sexual orientations, nationalities, religions and beliefs. However, we particularly encourage applications from people who identify as women, disabled, and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, as these groups are underrepresented on boards in Scotland.
